Front Range, dude...
Discuss...Bobby Garwood style collaborator, disillusioned idiot who made a bad choice or hero?

I will say disillusioned idiot...alot of money, time, effort and soldiers lives were lost looking for this little jerk who walked away from his post into the gloaming. Who knows what he told the bad guys...or how much damage one little idiot could do with what he knew at his level.

No win situation for the government...had the Taliban whacked him, the Tealiban would have freaked out....now we have him back and they freak out.

He needs to face military justice...

how can a deserter be considered a pow?
I've read on the internet (so you know it's true) that his company listed his status as POW after he had been taken. If that's the case, either the teatards have no leg to stand on or there was a huge coverup starting years ago involving the leadership of his company, falsification of documents, etc...

PLEASE someone ask McCain if he were back in a Hanoi prison and there was a deal to exchange him for 5 Viet Cong fighters, whether he would have been supportive of the deal?

God, the hypocrisy of the GOP is nauseating.

McCain a few months ago said:
COOPER: Would you oppose the idea of some form of negotiations or prisoner exchange? I know back in 2012 you called the idea of even negotiating with the Taliban bizarre, highly questionable.
McCAIN: Well, at that time the proposal was that they would release -- Taliban, some of them really hard-core, particularly five really hard-core Taliban leaders, as a confidence-building measure. Now this idea is for an exchange of prisoners for our American fighting man.
I would be inclined to support such a thing depending on a lot of the details. [...]
COOPER: So if there was some -- the possibility of some sort of exchange, that's something you would support?
McCAIN: I would support. Obviously I'd have to know the details, but I would support ways of bringing him home, and if exchange was one of them, I think that would be something I think we should seriously consider.

i truly believe the issue at hand is (or *should* be) the conditions under which bowe found himself with the taliban. it very well could be the case he's being used as a political football, and considering mccain is a lifetime politician, shouldn't he get high marks for doing his job, however disgusting?

don't h8 the playa

My view is get him back, and then throw him on trial. If he deserted, throw him in jail.

I'm just laughing at the utter hypocrisy of it all:

edit: Too many good ones to post.

maybe i'm a little slow on the uptake, but how exactly is this hypocritical? do we know the circumstances on his disappearance back in 2012? i had never heard of him until last week, and in the circles i run, i would like to think that wouldn't have slipped through.

and i don't know how twitter caching works, but there does not seem to be any results available for back that far on tagboard. maybe they stop @12mos? IDK.

maybe she deleted it; whodafuq knows.

for grins, i got teh google for bowe from 1/1/09 - 1/1/14, and it suggests those "bring bowe back" tweets preceded the mass flow of "he's ashamed to be an american" stories. http://goo.gl/4pxApz

you have to assume that twitterers have a #gnatsAttentionSpan. hypocrites? not as likely as "typical tweeters", a.k.a., yet another class of #usefulIdiots

he was already asked....
McCain experienced episodes of torture, and refused an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer.
In mid-1968, John S. McCain, Jr. was named commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater, and the North Vietnamese offered McCain early release[44] because they wanted to appear merciful for propaganda purposes,[45] and also to show other POWs that elite prisoners were willing to be treated preferentially.[44] McCain turned down the offer; he would only accept repatriation if every man taken in before him was released as well. Such early release was prohibited by the POW's interpretation of the military Code of Conduct: To prevent the enemy from using prisoners for propaganda, officers were to agree to be released in the order in which they were captured.[34]

In August 1968, a program of severe torture began on McCain.[46] He was subjected to rope bindings and repeated beatings every two hours, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery.[34][46] Further injuries led to the beginning of a suicide attempt, stopped by guards.[34] Eventually, McCain made an anti-American propaganda "confession".[34] He has always felt that his statement was dishonorable, but as he later wrote, "I had learned what we all learned over there: Every man has his breaking point. I had reached mine."[47][48] Many American POWs were tortured and maltreated in order to extract "confessions" and propaganda statements;[49] virtually all of them eventually yielded something to their captors.[50] McCain subsequently received two to three beatings weekly because of his continued refusal to sign additional statements.[51]

Sorry, how many Americans are still over there? Refusing early release to keep solidarity with other POWs is one thing. Saying "nah, those 5 guys that you'll trade for me have beards and stuff, so they must be evil... I'll stay here" is something COMPLETELY different.

why ask that question to someone who was captured and compare the situation to someone who chose to get caught?

i think you already know what mccains answer would be....

how do we know he's not an al quaeda spy now?
Dude, I've been saying this from the start.

He left his post, walked over to some dudes and said "Hey, if you are nice to me, I'll tell you all sorts of crap about 'merica". After 5 years they couldn't wait to get rid of him. So much so, when they handed him over, they told him "Don't come back".

I stand by my original post, because in my job I can't do anything without evidence. One piece of evidence can totally change the investigation and case, even when it seems to be going in a certain direction. Although there is lots of hearsay, there is little evidence so far, and there is sure to be an investigation. If he's found to be a traitor, he deserves everything he gets in that respect and I would recommend the appropriate punishment. What I don't agree with is the snap-judgement that I've seen. That's the exact same reason we had to go and invade a bunch of countries in the first place IMO.

Awesome!
What a charming intelligent and civilised bunch of people.

No evidence or charges laid against Bergdahl at this time, but don't let that stop you from sending death threats to his parents.

US authorities are investigating emailed death threats to the father of Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier released by the Afghan Taliban last week after five years in captivity.

You can get handed some crazy literature there when you're a white guy.
A former coworker (lovely little blonde haired blue eyed darling) didn't want to fly with it but he took some pictures of some of the informative pamphlets he was handed over the course of two weeks by random strangers.

Mormons are creepy, florida is just weird, montana is just way into being the tough guy in a 20 mile radius........ but idaho.............idaho is something special.

Special enough to threaten their neighbors with an enlisted son who just got out of a torture camp. All because what they saw on fox news to discredit the black guy.
