I got 2 36h hubs and want to know what is the best downhill racing rim

mag 30
521
supra d

I don't think there is other choice
3.1 was my first choice but they are 32 holes

Mavic 521 (now called the 721) comes in 36h... at least it did 2 years ago. Best rim out there for DH racing IMHO. Arrow freeride rims are damned strong, too, but even narrower and a little bit heavier.

Sun Ryno Lite XLs and Singletracks come in 36h, too.

No reason to get the heavy Supras, IMHO, and the Mags are also a little overkill.

Good job on the useless "36h is not for racing" replies  Retards. He said he already has the 36h hubs and he wants to choose a rim based on that.

I'm not sure about "racing" but my mags are tough as hell. It's the only rim I'll ride at this point. They've survived things I'm really not sure they should have(helps that i have a bada$$ wheel builder :thumb: ).

Chill dude, they are joking.

Go whatever they call 521s or 321s or Sun MTXs if they make those in 32H. Mags are too heavy, Supra D not as quality as these others. For my money, I'd take the MTXs (basically a scaled down Mag 30). If you want the ultimate light weight and are willing to give up some width, 521 is it.

i guess it would really depend on the corce. if its really techincal, rocky or has big jumps then go with somting larger like the Mag30's but if don't need a big beffy wheel (or big tires) grab a RhynoXL. their pretty light and will still take a fair bit of abuse.

I love my mag30's. My 36h mag's have put me on top of the podium more than once .I guess if I go to 32's I'll have to move to the pro class ,eh

The word I got from the Intense team mechanic was that their pros (Kovarik) preferred the D321 (at the time) even though the team was sponsored by Sun rims. The Sun rims were too soft and prone to flat spots while the Sun Mag 30 was too stiff and prone to pinch flats. The D321 was just right. Strong enough to resist flat spots and flexible enough to resist pinch flats.

April Lawyer ran on 32h front and 36h rear Sun Rhyno Lites.

Anne Caroline and Cedric ran on Mavic DeeMax which used a D321 extrusion for the rim.

This was all a couple years ago. I didn't check out the pits much this year.
