So yeah basicly a more 'freeride/allround' inspired big travel bike for all round extreme riding.... preferably with a shorter back end, and steeper angles.... Not keen on full on racers.. tend to be fragile and I'm a big guy!! (not fat! lol)
Get a Nicolai Lambda. Ive got one and its awsome. The angles are great for FR when you have stock geometry, and the rear end is quite short. It also is nice and stiff, and strong as hell. Plus price isnt bad over in the UK either

electric sex welds are HOT. top notch for sure. a ring of Sherwood's welds would make a cool wedding band (should hell ever freeze over and i get married). every time i see a closeup of his work i'm in awe.
honestly, there are so many companies out there with great quality i don't even know where to start.

Balfa bb7, i love mine, you can set it up for pretty much anything, pedals really nicely too for so much travel. Everyone who owns one loves it.

Can't go wrong with specialized, i'm coming off a bighit, that was a sweet bike as well. Somewhat easier to pedal than the balfa, but i fell in love with the bb7 as soon as i hopped on it.

i would suggest an orange just cause there made and sold over in the uk so the price isnt as bad.also peaty seems to have great confidence that his 223
will carry him to the world cup over the sell out greg on the honda bike. but if you dont want to go orange then i suggest ironhorse. BEST COSTUMER SERVICE EVER.the only prob with there bikes they tend to be a little heavy. 46 lbs for the sgs expert freeride edition. and that is with a boxxer race,xc rims, and some other light ass componets. so there is always santa cruz. got a friend who loves his to death but we all know how those santa cruz people can be.so good luck and the bullit is fairly light. under 40 lbs. :monkey:

My friend recently bought a Scream through us, nice bike, but the weld quality on it leaves much to be desired. He rides it hard without any problems, but i was somewhat skeptical at first. He loves it though, i guess you can't go wrong.

I don`t think i have seen any screams break, but as skyst3alth says the weld quality arent exactly top notch. Besides if your not into hucking bender style this bike is kinda overbuilt. In a nuclear aftermath you would probably see giant cocroaches riding Screams :)

Thanks guys.... thing with livung in the UK is that as mentioned by others here, some frames are hard to get hold of, or are very expensive.... most expensive are Brooklyns because no one offers built kits with them, so everything hasv to ne bought separate..... no cost cutting!1
Oranges are made here, hence they are cheaper than the american frames ie.. Orange 222 £1600, whereas an M3 or DHS is £2600!!! Brooklyns are £3100!!

Many of the british riders I speak to on other forums have said bad things about Orange, ep the patriot!

I think its important to remember that a well built bike doesn't mean the strongest.. some bikes are really well built to be lightweight... Like is a tank better built than a jumbo yet just because its stronger/burlier?? NO.. Different design purposes... etc etc...

That's also due to the fact that it's the most common bike in Britiain, so most of the broken bikes there are, in fact, Oranges...plus, it gets the 'everyone has one, so it's crappy' rap.

Over here, they're exotic, expensive, and generally (sometimes overwhelmingly) well-regarded for quality and ride (except by people who just don't like single-pivots.)

Just a matter of perspective, I think. No better or worse than most Yank- or Taiwan-made bikes.

Yeah I suppose.... but I'm just not keen the UK built DH frames, although I'm proud that Curtis, Hope, Assault Racing, X-Lite, Middleburn, Pace are british, I dont feel the same patriotism towards Orange, even if they are cheaper than their american counter-parts.....

Heh...I'd trust the orange before most other British engineering...mostly due to the fact that there's no fluid to leak out of a frame. I guess that goes for Middleburns, too.

I really like my giant DH team. If it can handle the Northstar punishment that I have tossed at it, yet still be a "race" frame then its a keeper in my book. Its defintaly one of the burlier dh race frames that I have ever seen but that shows up in the weight too. Giant has great CS, and a 5 year warrenty program, I doubt I will ever be albe to get to use the warrenty, or even try to, but its a nice thing.

The Santa Cruz V10 is a super burly bike as well. I have some buddies that have been riding the new ones since Jan, and they have held up for them so far, I think that they can hold up to damn near anyone.

Ellsworth frames are really nice, but not what I would call a beater bike, from riding my friends they seem real fragile. JMO.

That about all that I have experience with, but I'm sure that you cant go wong. It a little more difficult to find junk these days.

Whys that then?? Hopes piss all over your ****ty mass produced Hayes and other ****!! I'd trust most ****ing pre-school chinese kids engineering skills before i'd trust Americas attempt at making a car!! Remember britain makes TVR, rolls Royce, McClaren, Aston Martin, Cosworth etc... whereas you yanks and your cars are laughable!!

Wow, that got quite the rise out of you...I was thinking mostly of old Triumphs and MGs. Nothing personal intended, although...

Actually, never mind the "although." We don't need to make this a Hayes vs. Hope thread. I'm committed to staying out of those from now on, and I inisit both systems have virtue...it's a matter of personal preference.

Anyhow, deadpan, irony, and sarcasm are the norm on Ridemonkey, so take everything as a joke...and joke back. Just calling American cars sh1tty isn't funny enough...get creative with the insults!

With that blindly patriotic statement you answered your own question. Go buy your Orange and STFU  :D
Seriously, you sounded rational for a while in this thread, but man..

my dad and I rebuilt a triumph...and rebuilt pretty much every part after we rebuilt it. If something doesn't work, it's because "it's british". He calls Lucas (who did the electronics) the prince of darkness.

Honestly.

Ohh Christ, you had to bring up cars, here we go. I for one avoid the smileys. I've never read a book that used them, and if you can't figure out sarcasm and pointless statements, enjoy the future engineer's forum.

you got that right about the jags. those things are a piece of **** with wheels. you cant keep them on the road even the newer ones. and when you have to buy parts for them there ridicuasly priced. it cost like 400 dollars to replace a door handle on one of them things. and it takes like 8 hours to do one handle. thats rediculous.

but back to bikes

the v10s are great for dh racing not for hucking or rec dhiling.when i say rec dh i mean like with your friends. there is really no need for something like that for just riding with your cronies. and hucking would be almost impossible. also the screams are rumored to be like 50 plus lbs, but if you want to try and throw that thing around in the air u are more than welcome. yeh they are great bikes but not much better for anything else but what they were ment for. im still sticken with the oranges, santa cruz bullit (number one at the top of this list), or any ironhorse. all very resonable prices. i know that we all want a v10 but sometimes it just aint necessary. but you can get one and show it off to your friends and you would definatly have one of the most badass bikes around. :blah: :thumb: :D

Naa Jags are better than any of your yank tanks... for a country full of Mcdonalds munching, lazy fat wankers, they sure do put some soft damping on those cars!! Handlings like a boat!! lol... ANYWAY ENOUGH OF THAT!!

I give it to you yanks though you make ace bikes and you invented all the best mountain bikes plus music and sports.... peace!!
