The cheaper units don't have the same feature set (front and rear detection with directional arrows, sensitivity, POP3, etc.)

I have found that the POP detection is pretty useless right now. Cops cant convict on POP as its not proven yet, they have to back it up with KA or K. My dad and a friend of mine both have V1s, they are quite nice but yes they are pricy. The only feature I like about it are the arrows, the display sucks and the noises it makes are very annoying compared to an Escort. I have an Escort Passport 8500 X50, it has never once let me down in the past 6 months, and I always speed. If you want to spend $400 get the V1, if not get the Passport 8500 X50, and oh ya it does have POP too.

I find that the arrows are the best feature of the V1 for me.

If the noises bother anyone (like X band aka automatic door detector band, or Laser which is a Trailblazer/Infinti detector) and you can't adjust them to you tastes using the normal volume control and the muted volume control you can program the unit to not give an audible warning for any band.

i rock the V1, hard wired front and center. (there's a gap left in the tint strip atop the windshield to avoid attenuating the signal, for the curious.) some day i will also add in a Blinder laser jammer in the front bumper, but not on this car.

Only when it benefits them.

I find this thread very interisting. It seems that some folks think that speeding is okie dokie. Not good folks... not good.

Just out of interest, what's the legal situation regarding radar detectors in America? I'd guess it would vary from state to state. In Australia you can buy them legally, you just can't use them. Like bongs.;)

Can I see a picture of your whole car? I got to ride in a Mitshu Lancer Evo 9 tonight and holy sh!t, that thing is fast. I am coming from driving a Subaru Outback, and just riding in the Evo was pure enjoyment. I cant explain how much that car hauls ass. Wow.

I was going to buy one when I got my new car. I'm used to my truck which was much harder to speed in.
I found out that they are illegal in Virginia and Canada. Since about 70% of my road trips are to Canada, it seemed kind of pointless. Plus I didn't want to shell out for a hardwired one and I hate having stuff on my dash.

it put down 283 whp this past saturday :) . click "my thread" in my sig to read about it and to see more pics. here's an old one before coilovers, and with gold vs. silver STi wheels:

Ciaran/ummbikes: i have a detector not because i speed but because i drive a "flashy" car. most of the time i'm doing 0-3 over in the right lane, but i don't want to get a ticket just because i accelerated hard on the on ramp and some cop doesn't like the look of my carbon hood...

Toshi, I know, that you know, that I know you have a Valentine One because they are a bad ass cool toy. And you are a speed demon. :p

The WSP is more likely to pull you over for hard acceleration these days than for 7-8 m.p.h over the limit on the I-5. Aggresive driving is the new DUI in WA.

Nice ride! It's like Forza for real life.
