Yeah I've started to not use the Brake Cleaner stuff anymore. It seems to leave a film on that is supposed to burn off under the heat an automotive brake can produce. Iso alcohol and steel wool usually do it, with a light sanding of the pads before you put them in.
I yank the pads, spray out my calipers to get the dust, then I yank the rotors off, spray them down, take some scotch brite pads to them, bob's your uncle.
