I'm gonna set up a around town fun bike, but want something that won't slip like crazy if I want to go in the dirt. What's your flavor?

Cheers, Brad

Kenda K-Rad, Arrow Launch, DMR Moto, Maxxis High Roller Semi-Slick, Maxis Larsen TT, Maxxis Lopes Bling Bling dual. Personally I like the High Roller Semi-Slick or the Launches.

I have a set of the Maxxis Larsen TT 2.35 that work really well for urban, DJ and trail usage, as long as its a firmer surface. They roll really fast, and grip pretty well.

So far I have had hookworms, larsen tt's and Launches. The launches are by far my favorite.

The hookworms have a really different feel to them compared to anything else, and are awesome if you never want flats and only ride street. They slide a bit just like every other tire for park. Fast and smooth. But they weigh in like a truck and are unnesessarily wide. They work ok for dirt but not great. I used both the dh and wirebead versions. They are neat tires but have a smaller niche for them.

The Larsen's were my least favorite. They are not street tires and are really flimsy. I couldn't put it on the ground without it folding up all by it self. They also seem to expand more than other tires when pumped up to higher psi, which made me run it lower, or else the top of the tire rubbed the frame. They were also the slowest on dirt and street out of the three. I would especially not recommend them if you like doing abubacas, as hitting rim was quite common.

The Arrow Launch is so far my favorite, and I plan on riding them until they wear out, and then getting another pair of them. This was not the case with the other two. The worms seemed like they would last forever, and I didn't like the Larsens. The Arrows roll faster than the Larsens and about the same if not faster than the worms. They are also rounder than the Larsens, which to me feels a lot better when doing manuals. Maybe it is partially my imagination, but for the whole time I used the Larsens I could not seem to hold a manual... It seemed to come right back when the Arrows went on. The arrows are slightly heavier than the Larsens but don't expand as much, and hold up better for rear wheel stall stuff. :thumb: I like these tires the best for all conditions, although I am thinking a worm on the back might happen some day, but probably not. If I were to ride nothing but street I would ride with an arrow in the front and a worm in the back.

The 2.0 larsen is also a bit wider than the 2.25 arrow.

I've been running a 26 hook on the front and a 24 launch on the rear. Been very happy with it on trail and street. Both tires can take a LOT of abuse.

just an idea, i havent actually run this sort of setup
I run this setup alot, and it's great. Usually use a Kujo on the front, purely because it never wears out, and rolls fairly well on street... combined with a Holy Roller or similar on the rear. I did alot of riding in sand with a 24x1.8" Holy Roller (yes, I love the tyre) on the rear, and it was insane amounts of fun drifting everywhere.

k-rads are mad grippy on asphalt, i can tell you that. As far as I know however, they are rather heavy and have a flimsy sidewall. But for that you get really impressively low rolling resistance.

These launch tyres sound the cats' ~, are they heavy or expensive or something? what's the tradeoff?
