Yesterday I tried to save a fall by running out of it, and I got a little ahead of myself and hyper-extended my knee. At the time it was really painfull. Most of the pain was in the front of my knee right below my knee cap and it swelled up a little bit. Today I woke up really tight and now the tendens in the back of my knee hurt. What should I do to make this feel better as soon as I can? Stretch? Ice? Heat?

R.I.C.E. & Drugs = Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation

start immediately and do it for 72 hours.

Ice every hour for at least 15 minutes.

Compression: stretchy bandage or brace, but never while sleeping.

Elevate your knee above you heart as much as reasonable during the day and definitely while sleeping.

Some people don't like drugs, but I do... Ibuprofen not only helps with pain, but unlike the other painkillers like it (acetametaphin, asprin), it also helps reduce swelling. Also try Arnaflora, it's a plant they turn to liquid that's helped a lot of people with pain and swelling. You rub it on the injured part. There's also an Arnaflora pill you can take too.

NEVER Heat. Heat's for when you're not quite as injured and you're about to perform a sport and want it loose. But never during the first part of recovery.

PS: don't hesistate to see your doctor.

Heal fast!

What Opie said (damn that was good, apparently he's been injured a few times :D )

Also stay hydrated. Your body does everything better when it's hydrated, including healing.

Opie is on top of it, and I would say if it still hurts you tomorrow, call an orthopedist. you DON'T want you knees to be screwed up without being looked at by a SPECIALIST. Take it from me. skip the Doc in a box and ER and just call an orthopod

Yeah,

I just iced for 15 mins and have an ace bandage over it. I wouldn't excpect it to be all better tommorow. I have done this before and it hurt for a while but I didn't ice etc...

Ive been icing and stretching it out a little. It sort of feels like the swollen tension after I had surgery when I was younger but its getting better. Quick movements involving my tendons hurt but thats about it, I can walk around decently without much pain so I don't think its anything bad. If I were to go out and do a couple errands should I keep the ace bandage on?

Thanks for the help guys, I think it will be alright in a couple days.

Your best bet is to get a tourniquet on it right above the knee and hacksaw the bottom half of your leg off.
I thought of that when I was on the trail. I then decided to set it on fire using 2 sticks and a little elbow grease.
