Sandwitch you have some point but I doubt that you can get near minutes by even great weight losses. Even half a minute on gear is the differance between middle of the pack and podium on a 2-3m race. It's good to have a bike that gives you more confidence but that's not allways about the more expensive parts. Sometimes it's better tu buy the same frame with cheaper parts and use the leftover money for bike customisation. Ie. Getting 3 sets of tires, correct springs, cockpit that suits your preffered body position, going to spd if you feel like, changing the chainring size etc. If you can also go lighter is good but let's not do it at any cost. You pay to much and you have no cash for spare parts and tires as well as training trips (and riding other spots than your local gives you much much more than any gear change). You just can't go to extremes in any case. Plus you can make very much on your own if you know what are you doing. (ie. tuning susp or brakes[with high end oil and pads]). Simply buy smart, not expensive ;)
Sandwitch typed up all that but is still basically agreeing with Socket. Though rather than just comparing the merits of the lack of huge speed increase between the R and the Team, it sounds like he's throwing his old Racelink into the mix. 50+ lbs, three inch Gazzaloddi Double Wides and all. Yeah, upgrade to a new race rig and you'll go faster, but by buying some carbon bars/seatpost, bling rotors, and a Ti spring don't expect to shoot to the top of the board.

I must be tired as I notice only some parts of posts ;) It will be a big increase but the differance between a racelink and some newer bike is a differance of generation of downhill bike design than of cash. Also as with all stuff, the highter the price the more you pay for the smaller differance.

About the light stuff. Sometimes it's better to go with some more heavy duty parts than lighter ones as unless you're a sponsored rider you won't be to happy to pinn it in some nasty places from fear of harming your bike. Finease is good but in some rare cases it's simply better to go berzerk ;)

Apparently you missed the memo. When you contrast with someone on the internet who "apparently" knows more than you, you are automatically a homo.

PS Codes are stronger, the end.
Kevin is a homo.
P.S. Elixirs are just as strong if not stronger and way better.
