You do realize no single police force in the US was defunded, and most of them are under a now expanded city budget. At most a few cities reduced the ANNUAL GROWTH of program budgets but only Portland actually reduced theirs........and then went right back and vastly expanded it again.

You do realize most police resignations were due to temper tantrums over not having their asses kissed anymore.

Fear for their lives. Please. More pizza delivery drivers die every year than cops. Covid is currently the number one cop killer right now because so many of them refuse to get vaccinated, and don't give a shit about regulations....all while enforcing their favorite ones on other people.

This is one of those things that you believe that I genuinely wish were true but it's not.

"defunded" LOL

a plan that will redirect the funds from the police department to the Department of Violence Prevention with the intention of improving public safety.
Jesus, fuck that shit. Violence prevention sounds a lot like communism!

Schaaf’s proposed budget sought about $650 million for police in the 2021-23 budget.
My god, that's barely enough for half-dozen cops for all of Oakland!

propaganda headline is propganda

Update: on July 2, 2021 we included additional information made public by the City Council that clarifies how the police department budget was actually increased by $38.5 million in the new city budget compared to the previous two-year plan.

The Oakland City Council did not vote to “defund” the police. In the end, the council maintained historic levels of police spending and did not follow through with intentions they endorsed last summer to seek dramatic cuts of up to 50%, or $150 million from the police budget.

So go back and read my post again. This is what most of the pOliCe wErE dEfUnDeD stories end up looking like

To be fair, you have to read between the thin lines. And they are blue.

You should look up LAPD's police budget sometime. It's to the point of not even being a real number any more
NYPD has entered the chat.

*What you might see as the budget from their city for these big agencies isn't their whole budget. They get a lot of Federal funds too, plus state level grants to waste on stuff.

Not to mention #Police killed by Covid > killed by (un)friendly fire:

458 law enforcement officers died -- up 55% from 2020, according to the report.
...
The vast majority of deaths -- 301 -- were due to COVID-19, according to the report, the second year in a row COVID-19 was the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths.

ETA: Nobody could've predicted that "granting" military surplus accoutrements to local PD would result in the increased use of those same lethal weapons against John Q Public...

Even sleepy LosBozAngeles has a tank of sorts that requires ongoing /////maintenance and training which is money that could be better spent on education of de-escalation techniques.

You do realize Biden only bumped up the budget because of a mass exodus of police officers because of the defund the police movement and lack of local government support. No one wants to be in law enforcement and they are desperate to fill the spots of the officers they chased out. I know a few cops that retired early because they now fear for their lives more than ever, in addition to the lack of police backing at the local level.
Let's talk some more about this :)
