Plants. And its not a good idea to ship bugs to places where they arent normally from. Unless you wanted a dead one, that is, for display or collection purposes.Tame Ape said:what does it eat? That thing needs to be mailed to me!

You're in NY, theres plenty of big beetles outside. Go into the woods and find a big dead tree that's decaying (like crumbles in your hand) and dig through for some big wood beetles. They are really cool and make this cool screechy noise. I used to catch them and make them fight as a kid. Im sure you've seen them before.Tame Ape said:my dog would have loved a new friend. we feed her veggies too.
Thanks Gil Grissom. Since when were you a bug expert?BurlyShirley said:You're in NY, theres plenty of big beetles outside. When woodpeckers are going through old logs, that's what they're looking for, beetles or their larva.
Im not an expert, but I have a fair understanding of the world around me. And Im learning more every day.ThePriceSeliger said:Thanks Gil Grissom. Since when were you a bug expert?
I wish I could say its that easy but I'm in the bowels of Manhattan and the nearest 'woods' are in Central Park. I've seen the littler ones, but nothing of that stature. I like the Japanese beetles I've seen.BurlyShirley said:You're in NY, theres plenty of big beetles outside. You ever have one get pissed off that you disturbed it, prompting it fly up at you and attack your neck?BurlyShirley said:You're in NY, theres plenty of big beetles outside. I like beetles, but my real "passion" for bugs these days is water insects. Or rather, bugs that start out as water bugs and later turn into dragonflys or mayflys or stoneflys. Mostly since I started flyfishing. They really are crazy looking things, and behind our duplex is a decent sized creek that Im always flipping over rocks and finding new bugs. Helgrammites are really cool.Tame Ape said:I wish I could say its that easy but I'm in the bowels of Manhattan and the nearest 'woods' are in Central Park. Besides, the beetle would look so hot in a handbag.
I'm shocked to discover your hidden dimensions.BurlyShirley said:I like beetles, but my real "passion" for bugs these days is water insects. Our big wood beetles down here dont fly, but we have some big ass flying cockroaches that sneak in through the window unit from time to time and set the cat and dog into a mad rampage of wanting to kill. Kizzi is deathly afraid of junebugs getting caught in her hair tooI Are Baboon said:You ever have one get pissed off that you disturbed it, prompting it fly up at you and attack your neck?
Awsome! Thanks for the link and the now uncovered facet of your personality.BurlyShirley said:
Westy said:On the way to the airport early one morning I saw this gigantic beetle beside the stairs leading away from the parking lot. It looked more like something that belonged in some jungle somewhere. I wanted to stop and check it out but I was late for my flight. This thing couldn't have been native to central Va. Looked something like this:
My guess someone tried bringing one home as a pet after some tropical vacation and probably had their wife or someone freak out when they were picked up at the airport and let it loose.
I dunno - that beetle looks pretty dead already.Tame Ape said:Badass! $5 on Westy's beetle to beat the other one!
