Some ingenious work being presented to congress right here. I read the whole bill, personally I wouldn’t support it. It grants unprecedented powers to a contrived food administrator and food law enforcement task force, that until this point, does not exist and should not exist. There are many opponents of this bill who believe it could destroy small farming and food distribution as we know it, **** up in any way shape or form around food and get ready to pay serious fines.

SEC. 405. CIVIL AND CRIMINAL PENALTIES.

(a) Civil Sanctions-

(1) CIVIL PENALTY-

(A) IN GENERAL- Any person that commits an act that violates the food safety law (including a regulation promulgated or order issued under the food safety law) may be assessed a civil penalty by the Administrator of not more than $1,000,000 for each such act.

(B) SEPARATE OFFENSE- Each act described in subparagraph (A) and each day during which that act continues shall be considered a separate offense.
Some of the bill’s intent seems to be for the better of food safety, but supporting a bill that will be self granted 1 year after its enactment to create regulations and laws that as of now do not exist, is just pure idiocy.

SEC. 203. PREVENTIVE PROCESS CONTROLS TO REDUCE ADULTERATION OF FOOD.
(b) Regulations- Not later than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Administrator shall promulgate regulations that require all food establishments, within time frames determined by the Administrator--
Other than in the case of trying to get a suspended registration reactivated, the new enforcement laws of this bill have very little judicial oversight, if any. It gives tremendous powers to some unknown future “Administrator”, and is sponsored by Rosa DeLauro whose husband Stanley Greenburg works for Monsanto.

Hhhmmm...haven't heard "seppo" since 2002ish. I also read Fast Food Nation and wholeheartedly agree with you. That's what's so funny about us "seppos" - most of us (especially the ones that you'll see traveling around Oz) don't support the BS environmental policies that our government dishes out. It's unfortunate that we're stuck with that stereotype.

books like fast food nation were written as a result of allowing corporations, like the backers of this bill, to have their way with crap ass food for all…

The problem I see with this is that most all americans won't give a rip about this bill because they are only consumers. They don't produce any food and will assume their lives are being made easier. What about people who grow their own food or are small local producers? If they haven't dotted their legal I's and crossed their legal T's their going to be shut down and fined, if not thrown in jail!? This is **** is making my head hurt.

Regulation with company's like Monsanto calling the shots?
I'd rather not thanks......
Yeah good point, I think that scenario is more whats happening at the moment which is causing the problems.

Bit of Aussieism for you then.
Indeed. Every American traveler I've ever met has had a pretty good world view and have not been very enamoured with America's global image recently.

Yeah I agree. Self regulation by large corporations usually doesn't work very well and the public often get shafted as a result.

Those are the fake Americans.

Real Americans never leave America, because only faggots have passports, and Jesus doesn't approve of the faggots, y'know. Drill baby drill! Culture of life! Kill the ragheads! Whooooo!

Real Americans aren't smart enough to get a passport...and even if they were, they are too fat to waddle down to the post office to get the form.

You're probably right, that would explain why some of them said they were Canadian :)
When my wife and I were in Thailand and Cambodia, we never once told anyone (That didn't have unfettered access to our passports) that we were American...we made a little game out of it and had them guess what nationality we were...

German won. When they questioned us about our English language skillz, we said that we lived in Canada...
