We have very exciting news for this year's event: the 2011 Rivers Edge Mountain Bike Marathon is going to change venues! We are going to hold the 2011 event at the Wood Run Trail System in the Uwharrie National Forest. The race will consist of five laps around a 10 mile loop of single track trails. For those of you who plan to make their way to the Uwharrie National Forest, we are going to fire up the grill after the race and cook hot dogs and hamburgers and have many great sides including pasta salad, slaw, beans, all of the fixins and ice cold beer!

We have also added the Battle of the Carolinas challenge to this year's race. Our goal is to find out what area of North and South Carolina has the fastest mountain bikers! Will it be the Triad, Triangle, Charlotte-Merto region, the WNC Mountains Crew, or the riders from the Palmetto State? Come out and support your part of the Carolinas and help the sponsor shop of the winning area receive the coveted trophy that will remain in their shop until the 2012 event!

A couple things to note about the new location of the event:

The pit areas will all be shaded.

Unfortunately, there are no showers or indoor restrooms but we will not have to deal with other trail users at the park.

The loop is going to be roughly 10 miles so we will do 5 laps as opposed to 4-12. 5 mile laps.

Last but not least, they are getting ready to start building 1.5 miles of new trail that will replace some of the fire road on Super Tree. They are supposed to have it completed near the end of the month so we may get to race on some sweet new singletrack! AND, if you haven't been there recently, there is already 1.5 miles of new singletrack that parallels the gravel road.

We will have lots more info very soon but just wanted to start spreading the news. Please help us spread the word by passing this along to all of your mountain biking pals!

Greetings folks! As many of you are aware, hurricane Irene is lurking out in the Atlantic and heading our direction. Many of the forecasters are predicting this storm to hit the Carolinas on Friday night or Saturday, possibly as a Category 3 hurricane. We have spoken with the Forest Service about an alternate date for the event and if we postpone the race due to the hurricane, we will move the event to Saturday, September 10. We plan to make the call late Thursday or first thing Friday morning.

Please check the event website for updated info http://www.charlottemtnbike.com
