The blaze was first reported about 12:45 a.m. at the Castle West Apartments at 3770 E. Uintah. Witnesses said the flames were shooting out of the roof and thick smoke filled the air as people tried to get out.

Fire Lt. Jeff Sievers said authorities were still trying several hours to determine how many people had escaped the 130-unit building, and whether anyone remained inside.

until this morning, residents were most likely to die from random gunshots.

it could have been worse: there's a chipotle only 2 blocks away.

i thought all of CO Springs was like a country club...

not w/ 5 military installations; gov't buys land cheap. we're more of a sprawling suburbia - outstretching to meet denver - & more houses than trees. NE side of town (high plains heaving to 7,000 ft) is pretty ugly.

but not as ugly as a 4 block charred wasteland ripped from last night's final scene of 24.

Maybe all the firefighters are evangelicals hoping for a revelation...or they are trying to pray it out?

It might have been a bad idea to go over the burning bush at the Colorado Springs fire department bible study last week...
