I'm looking for a bike case for travel. Any suggestions? Dakine makes one that looks pretty good but it's a soft case. It's only $200 though.

I have a Serfas hard case:

Its more than you're looking to spend ($350 msrp) but you can probably find them cheaper.

You can definitely fit a DH bike in it. I have done it before, but you have to take off your fork and rear shock to get it to fit.

Unless you're going to be travelling a LOT, call around to your varying LBS's. Most shops have hard cases that they will rent out for a pretty reasonable price.

I have used a Bikepro Double Downhill Case when going abroad with a downhill bike and a 4X bike + a load of stuff.

They have a hefty price tag (double DH lightens your wallet 690$) but are among the best I have tried. They are a bit heavy but gets stuff there in one piece.

Their normal Racecase costs around 440$.

The Serfas case previously recommended is also a nice one, keep an eye on the side clasps though.

Go to a shop and get an old cardboard bike box. You can use it to pad your dakine case. There are zippers everwhere for this in the case.

I have about 8 pounds of cardboard in mine right now
