MONROEVILLE, PA - A bicyclist shot a motorist in the arm during an altercation that began when the man on the bike made an obscene gesture, police said.
Robert Urick, 41, of Monroeville, was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
William Nicoletti, 51, told police that Urick made an obscene gesture as he drove past the cyclist in his pickup truck Saturday. Nicoletti said he turned his truck around and drove toward Urick.
Urick pulled out a pistol and told Nicoletti he had five seconds to get out of the truck or he would shoot, police said. Urick then reached into the truck and shot him once in the arm before pedaling away, authorities said.
Urick rode away but Nicoletti rammed him off his bike, police said. The two briefly fought until Urick fled.
According to police, Urick told them he reacted as he did because Nicoletti told him to get off the road.
He was being held Monday at the Allegheny County Jail on $100,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Feb. 17.
