a helmet is fine, but if you roll and snap vertebrae in your neck, it could quite possibly be all over for you. Hence the birth of Leatt neck braces for many DH riders/racers.

While doing a charity road ride a deer came flying out of a field and charged right through the middle of a pack of 20 riders. We were rolling a tight double pace line at 25 mph. It was a miracle that not only did no one get hit by the deer but no one crashed trying to avoid it.

No kidding. When its your time.....
Like what the Drive By Truckers once sang:

"When it comes your time to go, ain't no good way to go about it
Ain't no use in thinking bout it
You'll just drive yourself insane
There comes a time for everything
And the time has come for you to shut your mouth and get your ass on the plane"

(of course, they were referencing Lynard Skynard's fateful plane crash, not a bike wreck).
