There was an ad on TV over here that has made me feel pretty guilty about all the plastic I wear whilst on the bike.

I have seen Mons and Rocky Mountain do a Merino, Tencel(Lyocel) mix which might be worth a shot.

But as for shorts, are there any riding shorts that aren't plastic without going back to a pair of Stone Cold Steve Austin's?

I'm not sure if Tencel breaks down like will or it is like Rayon and hangs around for a really long time.

if you eat all your gear when your done with it?
That's what came to mind edible undies lol..

I'll see if my wife wants to eat my shorts when I'm done, pretty sure I'll get stabbed but I'll ask her..

Big question is what are you going to wear for protection? Maxi pads have adhesive backs so you can stick em all over you wrapped in toilet paper...can probably go with a pumpkin helmet it's stronger than a watermelon, can't say what rating it has but you can make baked goods out of it when done...

I think a couple pairs of whatever is fine no need to change that, excess is well excess.

Want to make a bigger difference, use your water bottle over and over...wife and I have our water bottles that we have been using for years...don't use plastic ones...and the ones we do are for specifically camping not daily..just a total waste..

You can't seriously think you're helping to save the planet by buying MOAR new shit when you already have perfectly usable wardrobe even if it does contain some plastic ?
A better plan would be keeping hold of what you have and wearing it as long as you possibly can. Including repairing damaged items wherever possible.

Yeah, the Wife made me get rid of a lot my "plastic" garb. And when I actually checked, there was A LOT of plastic clothes.

Performance fabric? Or uhhh... landfill? Is that the question?

Waaay back in the day I didn't even have chamois or "riding clothes". And didn't care. Now I do care. But....could go back if I wasn't so old and "wise" HA

Biodegradable helmet
(I'll stick with my non biodegradable helmet)

I prefer cotton shorts, flannels and t-shirts..I have a few jerseys but I'll have em in 10 years from now as well. I just wear clothes and gear, I don't buy em all the time ..like @Gary said and that's the best advice I've heard in ages...(Just common sense)...

I have jeans that are 22 years old, I wear 2 of my dad's flannels (Carhartt)..he passed away over 10 years ago and I'll wear em till they fall apart...(Actually caught one on fire with me in it welding lol so that was the 3rd one)...

We go to thrift stores for clothes I haven't been to a mall in ages...I don't buy new unless it's key gear for hiking long backwoods and PCT stuff...the. It's new because dying sucks I'm pretty sure.

Shoes I buy new and of course socks and underwear (wife won't let me into hers, apparently I stretch em out)..Garmin watchs are new...but everything else I try and support others and recycle an item not cause it's plastic but to help out others and save money... I can buy new, but why just like I sell stuff super cheap...helps others..

That's my take away from what Gary said..

I guess my point is by what you want , dont be wastefull and don't axe it cause it's not flashy..get rid of it cause there's not much left of it ..

Oh and here's that biodegradable helmet from my first mention lol ..

Yeah I'm not a huge gear hoarder and use stuff till it's dead.
I do buy most of my gear online(because XXL) usually on clearance deals so if it doesn't fit I don't feel too bad giving it away, mom works at a thrift shop, so a few things go there.

I do have three pairs of riding shorts but one is near see through and I don't like the DHarcos, one side pocket and a stupid little one above the plumber's crack. One day in KFC I was trying to get my car key out of the fucking stupid little rear pocket before grabbing my food and stopped when I realized I looked like I was trying to stuff a turd back in to my A Hole.

Those little pockets must just be for weed storage.

I appreciate someone trying to reduce the use of plastic but I wouldn't worry about riding gear too much. In 25 years of riding I have owned 4 pairs of riding shorts and am still wearing 2. I was using the same tech tees I bought 20 years ago until rather recently and did replace them with merino, however not 100% merino. Most people buy more disposable plastic in a single trip to the grocery store than is in a pair of shorts. However, Tobias Funke once again provides the natural alternative.

I think that's still my favorite TV show of all time, was lucky enough to turn the TV on one night at maybe 10:30 and I caught all but 5mins of the first episode.

Dharco stuff is nice, but yeah wtf is with the shorts and their pockets. And the side pocket is rather small.

Troy lee had those rear waist pockets in their moto pants over a decade ago. Not sure what you're supposed to store in them. I'd assumed it was just a moto thing.

I still have two of those with the back side pocket from 10 years ago, they are not the Moto model, but some light weight version. have to stitch them time to time, but they are perfect for indoor riding and running. I put my door key and earpod case in the back pocket when running, so they definitely have a function.
