Bleeding XO brakes

I put a new pair of XO brakes on my hardtail last night, shortened the housing and bled them. However when I set the lever reach to where I want it, the lever travels closer to the bar than I like and I have the pad contact adjusted fully out, ie. quickest pad contact. Instructions are to bleed with the lever set at full out on the pad contact adjust but I was thinking that if I do it at full in, maybe then I can get more DOT in there and can then set the pad contact to work better for me?

Not where I'd like
Bleed as instructed.

When you are finishing at the lever it is possible to squeeze a little more fluid in the MC or hose. Not a whole lot, but enough to make the difference it sounds like you are looking for.

After the normal bleeding process, I will typically cycle the lever a few times, while at the same time, applying pressure to the syringe to get just a bit more fluid in the system.

I re bled and did a better job. What did the final trick was to bleed the lever/master cylinder with the bike upright to place the calliper way below the lever. It's all good now except the brakes apparently came with organic pads which in our North Vancouver environment are good for about five or six hours.
