Kelly Clarkson is higher on the list than the Beastie Boys?!?

They must have gone with the dartboard method...

043. "Hurt" - Johnny Cash

WTF, any of his own songs are FAR better than a NIN cover...
how many original songs did he write after 1980?

i think the list was picked by editors/writers on Blender staff. and they've got some good people (the main editor Craig Marks was on the staff of Spin when it was still halfway decent, and i've got loads of time and respect for Douglas Wolk).

that said, they've pretty much ignored punk rock and alt.country as genres, and indie rock in general. looks like familiarity/chart success had a lot to do w/ getting on the list...looks like a "Jack" radio playlist to me.

I would agree, but would add Mr Brownstone and Night Train.

i pretty much made a "Jill" playlist for my wife's iPod. trolling through all of the stuff on my PC, i threw ~3600 songs on it, all selected w/ her in mind. there's very few full lps there (probably less than 20), and loads of 1-3 songs from various bands.

she's digging it immensely. :dancing:

007. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - Joy Division

Should've been number one...
:thumb:

and for my two shillings, "ceremony" is the best song New Order ever recorded, even though it's basically an unrecorded Joy Division song. never did get into NO too much. too dancy for me.

:stupid: Love Vigilantes was the best NO song. My opinion of course. Everything's Gone Green, or whatever was pretty good stuff. I gave up dancy NO for Echo and the Bunnymen.

Please tell me the order listed above was random and not in order of greatness...... :dead:
Ace of Spades was # 263 and Baby hit me one more time was #9.
That is pretty much all you need to know about that list.

It must have been like 5 people picking songs with like 4 of them that sucked, because there is some good songs floating down that turd river list. Just not enough of them.

Out of my mind, back in a moment.
Hrm.

155. "Not Dark Yet" - Bob Dylan

Now let's see....

003. "Sweet Child O' Mine" - Guns N' Roses
014. "You Shook Me All Night Long" - AC/DC
055. "The Scientist" - Coldplay
058. "Karma Police" - Radiohead
104. "Welcome to the Jungle" - Guns N' Roses

So a few of my bands came in ahead of Dylan hrm....Let's see what ELSE came in above him.

009. ". . .Baby One More Time" - Britney Spears (she hit Dylan over the head apparently)
011. "My Name Is" - Eminem (My Name Is...More popular than Dylan)
016. "I Want It That Way" - Backstreet Boys (Dylan wasn't invited into this homoerotic orgy that's 139 spots higher)
037. "Bootylicious" - Destiny's Child (Dylan is apparently NOT bootylicious)
042. "Got Your Money" - Ol' Dirty Bastard (Yeah, this guy beat Dylan)
061. "Ignition (Remix)" - R. Kelly (Peed all over your boy)
069. "You're Still the One" - Shania Twain (No, he's NOT the one, he's the 155)
097. "Since U Been Gone" - Kelly Clarkson (someone's gone from the top 100....wonder who)
110. "Toxic" - Britney Spears (Toxic...didn't he write a protest song about that once?)
113. "Nothing Compares 2 U" - Sinead O'Connor (Old Dirty Bastard and a bald lesbian came in above him...wow)
131. "Freedom" - George Michael (Maybe if Bobby was caught in a public bathroom with his junk in his hand....)
145. "Beautiful" - Christina Aguilera (She ain't but she's on top of him on the charts)
154. "Stay" - Lisa Loeb (Dude...SHE BEAT HIM!)

Point to all this? Everyone has a different taste in music. Trash someone else's just because it's not your taste and you're likely to get it back. And by surveying people who are being marketed to nowadays PROVES that while your boy may have his niche, he's no longer the focal point, and CERTAINLY not the only talent out there.

All in good fun, of course.

Now that I've satisfied my need to be a buttplug, I'm off to eat pizza.

Merded, ca
What a load of crap, Kris Kross is on there with Jump (yeah I tried to put my clothes on backwards too) But Lenny Figgin Kravitz doesnt make it!!!!! I would like to get all of those songs in an easily downloadable mp3 file though.

I would rather be number 501 than 500 though.

this list is so dreadful I don't even know where to start... Blender - what a joke.

This looks like a United States top 40 radio playlist.

Go backstreet boys!

i've got some free time this morning, so i decided to see how many of the top 500 songs i actually purchased at one point in time.

the tally:

27 of the top 250
34 of the next 250

total: 61

if the editors didn't like the pixies and the replacements, i'd probably have 8 or so fewer...
