One day, an eskimo was riding his snowmobile to work and noticed that it was running poorly. He stopped at the repair shop to have them look at it.

The repairman said, "We're kind of busy right now, but why don't you go across the street to the cafe and have something to eat, then stop back and see me in a few hours."

So the eskimo went to the cafe and returned to the repair shop two hours later. The eskimo asked the repairman, "What did you find?"

The repairman said, "Looks like you blew a seal."

The eskimo replied (after wiping his mouth), "No, it's ice cream!"

A vacationing penguin is driving through Arizona when he
notices his oil pressure light is on. He gets out to look
and sees oil dripping out of the motor. He drives to the
nearest town and he pulls into the first gas station.

After dropping the car off, the penguin goes for a walk
around town. He sees an ice cream shop and being a penguin
in Arizona decides that something cold could really hit the
spot.He gets a big dish of vanilla ice cream and sits down
to eat. Having no hands, he makes a real mess trying to
eat with his little flippers.

After finishing his ice cream , he goes back to the gas
station and asks the mechanic if he found the problem.
The mechanic looks up and says, "it looks like you blew a seal."
"No no", exclaims the penguin. "its just ice cream!!!"

What kind of fork is it? Is stuff dripping down the fork or is there just stuff hanging out on the stanchions? A little bit of oil is probably normal (no drips, though).

Take the fork down to your LBS and have them replace the seals. I think a seal kit runs $30-40, plus installation.

Something very similar to that happened to my xc fork, after a few months of hard riding those darn black streaks started showing up. So I took it to my LBS and they said that nothing was wrong with it, (it wasn't affecting my performance it was just visually annoying) so I still ride it and just deal with the streaks.
