I believe that this involves two factors:

1. Santa Cruz will not warranty the bike for any headtube issues if you run longer than a 4" fork. Why? Maybe the increased leverage of a 5" travel fork combined with light freeriding versus cross country trail riding is too much for the design, but I doubt this.

2. The geometry will not be optimal for the Blur's intended use, trail riding. 4" is plenty if you're not doing anything too "sick".

If you want something burlier, get a Heckler. Or you could email SC and ask them why.

That's correct although I don't think the geometry issue is real. If you check out some of the SC fourcross riders you'll see them on gusseted Blurs with 5 inch forks. I think a loger fork would help as the bb would be a bit higher. I run my chainring into stuff a lot on my Blur. I'd rather the bb were a bit higher.
