Is there any lighter option as the profile cranks on a BMW Race Link?
Maybe alu crank and euro bb?
Is it possible to use a 2.2 Michelin tire in the shortes chainstay position?

Thanks

2.2's shouldn't be a problem in that position. Profile only, need the left-hand drive cranks but also because Brooklyn makes their own BB, which to my knowledge only fits Profiles.

You can call or write them if you need more detail. They've improved on responding to inquiries in a timely manner.

profile cranks arent really *that* heavy. the bb spindle is definately porky, tho - get the titanium spindle if you want to save a chunk of weight.

pork :oink: = Schweinefleisch (meat of a pig)
porky = schweinefleischig :think:

sounds interesting :D

So, the options, to save wheigt on an BMW Race Link, are a bb ti spindle, ti spring for AVY and a ti floating brake arm?

Because for German and Austria race tracks is the frame a bit heavy.
But i spoke already to my wife that I need one of these frames :blah:

Oh come on that's just stupid! You have lots of steep, long runs! Here in Denmark the highest point is 172m (57 feet) above sea-level. And we ride Race Link's.

The weight of the frame is no prob. since it pedals soo well. It's actually harder to pedal my friends R9 with 150mm sherman than my other buddy's Race Link with 888.

This should apperently be the Mini with the ugly welds! Looks pretty sweet from here:

That is REALLY impressive! you could probably get a sub 40 pound racelink with a WC Boxxer fork.
My friend highly reccomends tubeless aswell. I'm only light so he thinks it may be a good option if i can afford it.

I'm also running profile SS cranks, which are slightly heavier.. not sure by how much, but it would also be another thing i could do to shave a lil bit of weight if i ran the normal ones.

Can't say im a weight weenie sort of person, i was just genuinly surprised, after not taking any steps to get a light bike.. everything seems to have just fallen together :D

Friend across the river?

I found it on a Swedish forum. No idea whos bike it is, but I'm sure I'll get a reply from him if he's hanging around there, which he should be. I'll try and get more info, and closeups.

Not tomorrow though, I'm going shooting clay pigeons with my dad in Sweden, but when I get beack, I'll get right too it!

I saw and rode that swedish FQ link in åre a month ago. Sweet ride I must say... I didn't notice any "bad welds" there. Too bad the seatpost isn't any darker... Orm(fq-owner) mounted my ducky and he got that strange bmw_grin on his face :)

That's the frame I had posted a few pages back, all black on a black leather couch. Good to see the awesome build. That's a 6" fork on there rightio? I reverted back to my Super T but lowered the fork in the frame (a sweet option on the older DTC marzocchis from the bolt on everything), and the bike rides SO much more balanced now. Big travel up front (relatively) but not so jacked up anymore.

edited for personal assholyness

Shortbus, im not gonna start anything, but neither of my bikes are even close to light, i dont care about weight which you would know if you felt my planet x. My only comment was the weld, nothing else.

Please just drop it already, its getting very old.

Shortbus, no problem. i have nothing against either of you that argued in the other thread despite what you might think. its only been about welding on ONE frame and nothing more. I think i just have a pickier taste when it comes to welding. I admit im not a bmw fan, we all know this by now, but i dont hate them either. i never intended to insult anyone, even if i see now that i unintentionally seem to have. im just glad the weldjob i saw is a one off.

ride on.

I just realized this, but that zip tie on the stanctions of the fork is gonna be bad new for the stanction coating in a few weeks.
now that you mentioned it i noticed that as well, why ziptie it THERE, when there is a hose mount at the back of the seal..?

but a ziptie is alright to measure travel right? i have that on all my forks, and its never been a problem for me

to measure travel I use my girlfriend's hair tie elastic thingies. I just leave it on my stanction the whole time achully. I don't think a zip tie is soft enough to spare the coating... especially not if left there the whole time.

Interesting how grimm is suddenly pulling his boat of bad welds, bmw challenges and weight complaints towards land, when the bike with the bad welds has suddenly shown itself.

i guess that is probably just coincidence though....

aiight, kids. no more squabbling or i'll nuke this thread (for i possess the power of the threadstarter *insert megalomaniacal laugh here*). there's too much crap in this fine thread. remember we're talking about bicycles, here - let's keep it fun & friendly.

if you take a good look at everything ive said, its ever only been about the welds.

and if you can see welds in detail from those pics you have sharper eyes than i do

dont start again.
