Finally 6 month later my RL is here :thumb:

That looks like one of those those "bad material" "retarded"ly completed frames.

An apology to the hard working crew at Brooklyn for the slanderous thread might be in order, eh?

I think i was misunderstood. I wanted to ask whether somebody else has to wait longer for his frame because there are problems with the material.

But now everthing is fine and i hope the stem and pedals will come soon.

osi, can you take more pics of the linkage and rear drop out area? Also, is there a stamp or something on the end of the top tube? (near the seat clamp)

what fork and wheel are you running?

thanks,

joel

Misunderstood? "I heard only of the fact that they have problems with the material and the completion of the frameworks retarded."

IM(admittedly defensive and grudging)O, starting a thread with a title "Problems at BMW" then going on to state erroneous and slanderous info as "fact" is not cool. I understand there could be differences in our cultures that might lead to this being a misunderstanding. And I can almost hear BV's voice of reason chiming in on my immature decision to hold this grudge. I'm the yack, it's my issue. Osi bought the bike, so why am I trippin'? It sucked, that's why. Those guys work ridiculously and relentlessly hard, and I'm defensive.

Okay osi, if you get some dope riding pics on that bike up in here lickety split I'll consider dropping the grudge. Deal? ;)

ya. you are like, SO transparent. :p permission IS manditory, tho. it was an unwritten rule @ our shop that when a new personal bike/frame arrived it was to remain unopened in the box for the respective owner - the right of opening was definately reserved.

dang bro, everything about that bike is sweet. i love the new chainwheel. Im sure it will pedal alot better for street use too. i am really diggin how even the links on your bike are black. that chain is crazy too.

i'll look for a report later this weekend to see how it feels.

Hey knuckle, nice build and additions to the FQ. I was wondering are u running a 9spd cassette? And what teeth is the animal, did u change both rings on the FQ? On my FQ i'm running it single speed and it's 28 x 18 ratio and it pedals well.

Nice RL Joel!!

That Black and Pink RaceLink is soo nice. You are a lucky man. How much did it cost all in the end? I might have to save up for one of them.

Damn, you FQ cats must be short, I'm 6'0 and on the maiden voyage today my knees were killin me. Not use to being so low. I can see why this thing is built for street, it's tough going on the trails. But with the 2.7 tires and the fact that I haven't ridden in a month doesn't help. However I jacked up the seatpost a bit and it was a lot better. Just will take some getting use to I guess.

Tank, I got a 9sp cassette, top of the line SRAM 990 11-32T for that one. For the sprocket it's a 25T Animal. As for the jack shaft sprockets, I diddn't touch them, and they aren't standard sprockets, they are specially cut for the jack shaft axle, so I wouldn't know what to do about them. The rear end of this bike does not move, however. I watched my wife pedal it. The shiver SC, despite having heavy springs in it bobs like a bad habit, that is if Marzocchi even changed the springs in them when I had it serviced. Overall I like the bike. I think some less harsh tires might be good. I'm not gonna pass judgement on this bike yet as I've had like 8 hours of sleep total since Friday and I'm spent. It's just a different kind of ride than I'm use to (being so low and such)
You think I might want to get a longer stem? Mine is like 40mm I think.

I run a BMX stem. That works good.

2.5x24 Maxxis I run work really good. Nice rollin and good grip. Only downside is they are ugly as hell.

Well I'm 5'5 or so, and I run a taller fork on my FQ so my knee still get a lot of hurting. I also run a DTC fork. My knees always get "hickies" from the FQ :p

It definitely rides more like a BMX than anything else. Yes 2.7 tires a tad overkill for a FQ, but i've ran maxxis 2.7s for about a yr now and have dealt wif em ok. I think my next tires might be a bit narrower.... I also run a BMX stem, but as tall as you are knucks you might wanna consider a longer stem indeed....

C'mon I'm 6 foot 3 and have not problem with it. Guess I'm just used to BMX bikes and that probably helps.

did you ride @ lincoln last weekend?
No, I had my daughter last weekend. I'm glad I diddn't go, I'd be pushing the thing the whole way. It's not an easy bike to ride. I did an 8 mile urban assault on it last night. My knees are killin me. It's sort of a double edged sword. If I raise the seat tube on it ridiculously high, I can ride it, but it looks kinda whacky like that. I'll try a longer stem. If that doesn't help, check ebay

Yes I would definitely recommend, like Marcus had mentioned, a fork with quite a stiffer setting than average for the mini. A softer fork just makes it very odd to ride with a avanalche rear shock in general, on the mini it's even multiplied... I tried my 4" Z3qr20 fork on the mini, and the geometry felt great, but it felt like my bike was riding on jello in the front... My superT on the other hand is quite stiff on medium to smaller bumps and balances the suspension feel a lot better...

Funny thing to mention is since i got my mini, my leg muscle shape has changed quite a bit. Getting used to pedalling off the seat or pedalling in a very low seated position requires some getting used to indeed... Definitely BMX'ish pedalling style....

I was thinking about a 05 z.1 for it. You think that 150mm fork would be too much? I like that fork because you can bump up the preload and stiffen the fork quite a bit. Like you said, it's whacked. The rear end doesn't move, but I can just about bottom the fork (shiver SC) just by jumping up and down on the bike.

Yes I think 150mm is perfect :) That's what my 01 SuperT runs and i love it. I feel like the front and rear travel and suspension feel are perfectly balanced. Remember though that it will hack up the front end a bit, which will put your knees a tad bit closer to the stem... When i tried my 4"Z3 on the mini that's exactly what I felt, the rear end was stiff and the front end was an overcooked noodle. It felt VERY VERY odd....

avalanche rear shocks are stiff by nature (god knows it took ME time to accept and live with that fact :) ), so with a softer XC-sih type fork they just don't work well at all...

I guess one COULD try putting a FOX rear shock on a mini...???

something is wrong withyour shocks or the shock setup.
i have/had two avalanche shocks on two different bikes. both were set for a mixture of freeriding and dh racing

they are anything but stiff

They're definitely not as soft as any of the Fox shocks i've ever had and I think that's the norm... at least i thought it was??? On the other hand, avalanche shocks don't bottom out on 3ft drops, fox shocks did all the time... Avalanche shocks never had that noodely XC-ish feel other stuff does...

hm i never owned a fox, and all fox shocks i rode virtually had no compression damping.
is the existance of a compression damping (with blow off) together with a softer spring what you describe as stiff?

this may sound picky or stupid but i am just confused :)

Yes you pretty much nailed it ;) "stiff" to me = !(noodley)

I think from a freeride DH oriented style riding the compression dampening makes 100% sense, but when you come from a XC-ish background where compression dampening is virtually almost useless, avys do feel very stiff indeed. Then you take one off a good sized jump and it all makes sense then...

its not noodley...

Fox = soft = no compression damping (bottom out at 3 feet drops)
Avy = stiff = compression damping (does not bottom outat 3 feet drops despite a usually softer spring)

i am just going from my experience.
on my old spooky i first had a Risse J5 with a 750 spring
then changed to an avy with a 500 spring
and the bike worked WAY better then before...

EDIT: ok you explained it. nevermind.
i am just a confused foreigner whose XC background ended before FS bikes really made an impact there
