in some peoples' eyes (i'd have to say i'm in this camp) doc was bmw. unfortunately i see bmw becoming another victim of branding. the company has a unique pedigree that's eminently marketable - pharell is no dummy. that said, i'm a huge fan of doc's work & am looking forward to seeing what emerges from his shop next - regardless of the sticker on the downtube.
I've been to Interbike several times, starting in 1998, and I never got the impression that only Doc is/was Brooklyn Machine Works. Both Joe & Doc are different personalities, and Doc liked to explain how the Supertrucker and TMX worked, but not once did I leave their booth thinking that it was just Doc's company. That said, I'm glad that they finally have the track bike in production--gonna pick one up, hopefully. The Anson frame looks bitchin', and the Race Link is still in production. Bitchin'. I'm also looking forward to what Doc has up his sleeve.

Ironic to mention the bike trade show in response to impressions some folks have about Doc being the driving force behind whatever attracted riders like xy9ine to the company. Bklyn wasn't at Interbike for the past two years yet Boudreaux was.

Also kind of ironic to refer to those particular bikes because Doc's designs and manufacturing have seen a decade of mostly self-funded advancements since he made those two dinosaurs. His Supertrucker was the dawn of time for big travel bikes, no less using an internal hub. And while the TMX was a deeply personal bike for him, he recognized it was obsolete long before it went out of production over six years ago to make room for the race link.

I wouldn't necessarily agree Doc "likes" to talk about the technology behind his designs though he is ready, willing and able to offer detailed answers when questions are asked. Which happens often since his designs seem to buck the system and are often considered advanced of industry and market trends with the 6 yr old RL still riding the crest of the wave. He ends up with a lot more explaining to do for people who have a hard time grasping something as far out as the freak show that the Supertrucker was 10 years ago, or the hubbub over the TMX a year later or even the one-off DH frame he's currently riding.

If people are drawn to the company because of bikes like the big/mini/race links, the Hitman, Street Sweeper or the Masterplan it makes sense they might consider the person responsible for them to be of special interest to their own special interests. Surely there are also longtime fans with the complete opposite impression; where the contribution of the remaining partner was their draw to the company.

Variety makes the horse race, as they say and there's room for everyone's wildly varying impressions of the old company and the two people responsible for it at the time. Three if we include silent partner Yauch for throwing in the start-up cabbage, who incidentally parted ways with the company along with Doc. Five people if we include the generous contributions from Ged and Peter.

I've heard the old company is still selling the racelink but I'm not sure if inserting a pivot between a front triangle and swingarm that were made in 2005 can be considered "in production".

i hope he names it "LOLWTFBBQ"

You and Sammich make me laugh out loud. Doc heard another funny one at a race last month, CBGB's. Do you get it? Embarrassed to say I didn't at first and had to have it explained to me. D'oh.

Sammich, JimmyPop's frame was zip-stripped not sandblasted. But yeah, it's raw in that photo.

Oh shucks xyP, he still won't budge. But if someone else would just snap a shot of it at the mtn and post it up in here I would be relieved of this pressure you put upon me.

We'll be heading to Whistler at some point this summer so hopefully we'll all get to ride together and you can check it out first hand. The performance is noticably different but you might not spot the visual changes from the RL. Oh wait, it's you...yeah, you'll notice.

I think Siko noticed right away. Most people don't.

By the way, Sik, Kranked, Sammich and lurking Pkill pals, I'll be in NYC in a few weeks for work and Platteylah the w/e following. Will keep y'all posted on dates so we can ride and burn S'mores over the campfire. (I don't actually enjoy S'mores but they smell good.)

That's cool you know the original meaning of those letters. Not many people do as I'm sure you're aware. However no, none of those are what those letters mean in this scenario.

Hey, that reminds me. I love my new Laek House t-shirt. Loads of people ask me about it and agree that the reflector (ELVS) stuff is a brilliant idea.

Attention one and all: I strongly recommend checking out the tees on Tame Apes site. Good vibe, smart product, all-around quality stuff.

Come on Andywich, I know you can do better than that. However you still get props for working bacon in there, albeit communist bacon.

Ok, guess who's back?

Who remembers me? :P You better TMX!
Was wondering about you yesterday. Along with several others who were part of the porn crew back when it was cooking. How've you been?

Sorry Shorty, I forgot Chris had that bike at the Open last year. Good golly that was some fun in spite of the dark cloud. Maybe I'll go dig up some pictures on my lunch break....

edit: I think it's going to be fairly anti-climatic once the ridiculously mysterious photos of the WCRL Doc's been riding this past year finally show up in here. LOL.

your darn internet terms are getting way past me now. but jonny's moving out here now, so maybe i can stay up to date soon.

i still can't wrap my head around why someone would want a 20lbs track frame. yes, they look good. but are you serious?

its all about style, man. i'm amazed by the current popularity of fixies / track style bikes around here. they're everywhere. track bikes are flying out of shops & hoardes of beater road bikes are being resurrected & stripped of derailleurs & brakes. very style conscious, but as long as people are out of cars riding bikes its all good.

methinks the mystery grey bike is titanium. its about time someone built a ti dh frame. that will be my unfounded speculation for the day.

If you only knew how long ago that was close to hap - - nevermind. Hurts to think about.

I don't know how well it would work but I am 100% behind finding out. Just for the helluvit.

"but as long as people are out of cars riding bikes its all good." Agreed.

Yo Sausage, whattup! Hold on to your three bikes a little while longer.

Hmm.. a lightweight WC race-link? That sounds interesting!

I'm guessing a lighter, butted, tube set. Maybe 853? Lower, slacker? If it also would have slightly shorter rear end, that would be my dream bike, right there!

Please say that they will go into production!! :)

I have ridden Seismic's H1 for a very limited time. The construction really makes for such a nice ride! It's only slightly big and heavy for me. ;)

There, fixed that for ya'. ;)

btw, Seismic, I've been meaning to tell you for quite some time how happy I am for you that you finally got one of Doc's bikes. And the one you have is pretty cool because it was made specifically for Tony Calves, who's repeaded pleas for Doc to make another hucker was the reason the HM was made at all. Bummer it didn't suit TC's needs, but it's cool that it seems to be in equally good hands now. Hope you're enjoying it.
