i've always wanted to ride bootleg canyon, and i think im headed down there around spring break(march 19-27), and was looking to link the trip with a race nearby. i already searched and their website doesn't have any info and i couldn't find any on rm. so does anyone know if there are any cali races(theres a southridge the week before-damn!) or bootleg canyon races around then?

There isn't a race the weekend of the Gathering (spring break) that I know of, but they just added another race in May if that helps. I just got back from racing there this past weekend and I had a blast. I highly recommend this as a winter riding spot. It was 70 and sunny everyday I was there. Plus riding with Minaar and the Honda gang on Monday was a great way to finish up. 
The race they added is May 7-8th or so I believe, it's going to be SO hot. The gathering falls in your window which in my opinion is way more fun and possible to get in way more riding. All in all I was rather disappointed with the organization and attitude of some of the race crew for this last weekend. Given the fact that our camp site ended up being inhabited by half of the racers I got to meet a ton of cool people though, that was the funnest part. Countless flats made for super fun, man that shiz is rocky as hell.

Dude, I must have been in your campsite. I was with JP on the red Yeti. I thought the scence was really cool and it was one of the best run races I've been to. I'm glad I got to meet a bunch of you.
