Probably going to head out from LA with a couple friends this weekend to ride DH at bootleg. If anybody else is going that way, we should meet up and ride. I don't know how many people or what the car situation is yet, but it should be a cool trip.

Anybody got a line on places to camp? Might just get a motel room if the weather sucks (which it looks to be doing). Also, how do the rocks do in the wet? Are we going to be sliding all over the place or does that stuff stay tacky? Ususally water isn't a problem with that porous volcanic stuff but you never know.

Have you been there before? It is freakin' great! I go a few times a year... I just stay at a local hotel. Shuttle runs are say 15 to 20 bucks for the entire day (depending on who is driving that day) If it's Hans, you are in luck- the guy is super cool! Try www.priceline.com for a hotel room in Boulder.

Oh, I can't go...gotta try the new (to me) Bullit out here locally. It is Easter Sunday and we have plans with the in-laws for dinner. My mother-in-law is a great cook so I can't pass that up!

Price is up... $25 for a full day of shuttling - Still worth it.

Avoid the "Nevada Inn"... absolute sh*thole that charges WAY too much.

Both times I’ve gone there, people are camping in the lower parking lot. It seems like a decent alternative, but it’s been VERY windy both time.

Don’t know how it is when wet… be sure to report back and let us know!

I was actually thinking about heading out there this weekend, but the Easter holiday put a wrench in that plan. I might go up there the following weekend.

As for places to stay, check out the Hacienda. It’s a hotel/casino about 15 minutes from the Bootleg.

Was just there this last weekend and had a great time. Trails were in pretty good shape, a bit windy but good weather both days.

I'd check out El Rancho Motel, Sands or Best Western. There are more right on Boulder Hwy and all seem about the same $$.

Yeah...The Nevada Inn...I've stayed there many times and it is a Roach Motel but if you're going econo style and you don't mind it's worth trying to talk those guys down to $45/nite. Never ridden it in the rain but I know I wouldn't want to be on the trials during a thunder storm...it's wide open with no cover what so ever.

Luckily, I have a friend who lives in Henderson, so I always have a place to crash when I head out there. However, during the spring and summer, I think it would be a lot of fun to camp out at Bootleg.

Yeah...we've considered camping..they have showers there but for some funking reason the water was off this weekend. It is kinda nice after a long day of DH and pushing up that hill to head back to a nice soft bed. Camping would be good if you're properly equipped though.

The place is super fun... it's a must to check out! Here are a few pics:

Sorry, only one riding shot...it was my first weekend riding in quite a while. Anyways, Bootleg is great, I like North Star better though... Bootleg is cheaper though. Unless you shuttle, it's free!

****, i hadn't even thought of that, but what kind of trailer trash goes to vegas on easter?

I guess LA does contain many people of non-christian persuasion though. Anybody have any empirical evidence to support the claim that the 15 S will be a parking lot?

I was under the impression that you were allowed to camp at Bootleg; that's the reason Brent had the showers and bathrooms built. I have seen and known a lot of people who have camped there with no problems. At last year's Gathering, there were a ton of people camping at Bootleg, and the cops left them alone.

Since Easter is the last day of Spring break, it will be a terrible drive home...

My understanding is you can't camp just anywhere but some friends and some guys did it last weekend..camped right there next to parking/bathroom area...there's a campfire ring there and they just pulled in to it and I aslo saw Gene Hamilton(?) camped in the lower parking lot doing one of his camps....so yeah I don't know....

We've done it as a day trip fro the OC.

Not too bad, but better than dealing with Friday night or Sunday evening traffic.

Yeah...I'm going to have to agree. I've done the day trip thing from OC and in the morn. it was a 3 1/2 hr drive there and approx. the same back that night. Last Sun it tooks like 5 - 5 1/2 coming back.....that's f'n weak!

I do prefer to ride 2 days but if you want to utilize the shuttle service..it's Sat/Sun or return on Mon.
Man...if that N* star thing is true.... thats gonna suck. I too prefer N* to Bootleg but at 6hrs less driving time Bootleg rocks.
Prayin' for Baldy!

I'm heading out there tonight to camp in the parking lot with my big bottle of red wine and a few guys from school. We will then ride all day saturday and drive home in time to party (hopefully).

if anybody is gonna be out there, I'm on a blue AC and a silver/black helmet. we'll take a few runs.

my buddy who rode (and walked) the dh on his FSR XC.

my other buddy who went big and fast on his hardtail

and the blown z150 that was the result of such drops.

yeah, he had just had it rebuilt so it was almost certainly the shop's fault. probably just a cut in an o ring somewhere or a loose bolt. still sucks though. oil all over the trail, all over his brakes, and all over him.
