Well....this has raised my eyebrow more than once over the last few days. I have two cranksets--- a Race Face Prodigy w/Evolve FR BB and a set of Poverty 3pc. cranks....w/the bearings in the cups and spindle, yada-yada....

I have a frame---a Bullit.

Installing the drive-side Race Face BB, I noticed it wasn't the easiest of installations--requiring a bit of extra leverage near the end to cinch 'er up all the way up. This, I chalked up to overspray, as the frame had come back from Santa Cruz for repaint/sticker. The non drive-side cup was easier, and went in without a prob. I got everything lined up, put on, and decided "What the hell, let's see what the Poverty's would look like on there." Both cups unscrewed way easier than they went in. Checked the threads: check....nothing cross-threaded. She was well-lubed, capt'n....well lubed. Must have been the overspray.

So, I then started screwing in the drive-side cup for the Poverty cranks. Screeeech...to a halt about eight full turns into it. What? So, I back 'er out. Check the threads...nothing out of whack. Put the RF cup in again.....perfect. No thread damage. So I try again with the Poverty cup. Same result. What? That began the brow-beating and head scratching. I lather, rinse and repeat the aforementioned procedure to the aforementioned results again. Nothin' doin'....that cup ain't going nowhere. Which, really...it doesn't bother me too much, because I already have a working crankset that I know fits....but why didn't this one? I've fit these same cranks on several bikes before(AC and Kona), and everytime they went in so good, you could almost hand tighten all the way in. The cup tines really aren't all that deep, so I hesitate to really put a wrench on it and torque it, cause the BB tool will slip out real easy and round it out.

So, has anyone ever had this problem before? Bottom brackets not fitting well from one bike to another.....I'm curious about this. For the life of me, I can't figure out how these cups just don't want to go in after so many revolutions when the other one goes in just fine. The threads look fine on the cups...no burrs or anything. What do you think?
