The bb in question is (I think) a Shimano square-taper. I'm using a splined bb removal tool which easily unscrewed the drive-side cup, but the non-drive side cups' splines seem to be not as deep. In essence, the tool keeps slipping and I can't remove the damn cup.

What gives?

Ahhh, here's a worth a try. I overcame that problem by grinding down flush the end of the tool. The splines were tapered at the end and not making full contact.

Stick a quick release through the bottom bracket and bb tool and then tighten it down so it doesn't slip.
Excellent tip, but that only works on pipe billet BB axles. But you can get a long bolt to bolt the tool to the square taper axle.

For future reference...
If you're having this issue and don't want to spend $10 on that Pedro's tool, go to Ace hardware and pick up an 8mm finely threaded bolt that's about 50mm in length. Also grab a couple of washers just incase. A buck and change will get you what you need.

Edit: This threading worked on my Shimano square taper bb but not on a Truvativ ISIS xc bb. Confusion...
