I'm replacing some old stripped out square taper cranks with an ISIS set. My question is about the bottom bracket. The original square taper is a 68mm X 113mm do I just need to get an ISIS with the same exact spindle length? My bike is a 2004 hardrock pro disc, and I plan to run a 1X9 setup. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

The axle width (or length if you will) will not always be the same as you square taper equivalent. This depends on what model crank you are using etc.

However, a 113mm ISIS BB is one of the most common widths and should not pose a problem. A triple setup on your frame usually uses 113mm.

So you will probably be fine with it, your "perfect" chainline will however have a light bias towards the heavier cogs on the cassette.

If you have a chainring that can be used on both sides of the chainring spider, it would probably be favourable to have it on the inside (where the middle ring usually sits).

I guess I should mentioned the cranks I am using. They are TruVativ Hussefelt taken from a 2004 Specialized P.1. According to Bikepedia that year P.1 also uses a 113mm BB.
