I know it's not the best, but I am just starting out in XC.
I bought a GT Avalance 2.0 on saterday morning, took it the afternoon to a close by nature reserve with a couple of nice trials, hehhe...soooooo much fun. Just worried about the amount of abuse the bike will be able to handle.
Don't worry about how much abuse it'll handle. Very likely more than you can dish out for awhile. Well, assuming that you use it for XC and not for hucking, DH, & dirtjumping. :D

If it feels like the right bike for you right now, right the h3ll out out of it! Things will wear out, but they do on big $ bike too. So replace'em and keep riding it. Even if you get a FS bike or something down the road, you'll still find a use for it.

Is there a velcro strap on that pump? I once lost two without knowing it before I got a hydration pack and stored it in there. Clipless is good when you want to up your speed on stuff like climbs, where you can pull up your legs to drive the bike instead of just pushing down.
