Headed to the lift...
Other than the extra inch of travel how do these forks compare? I am looking at getting one in the next week or two. How much taller is the 05 over the 04? With the new lowers is the 05 just as torsionally stiff or stiffer? I can get both forks brand new with the 04 of course being cheaper. I am just trying to decide if the 05 will be worth the extra money, performance wise and resale wise.

I am talking about the Boxxer Team. The World cup is not worth the extra money for me. Same goes for the new Fox fork.

The 05 Boxxer is pretty awesome. The 05 888 is pretty sweet as well. I did a bunch of back to back runs at Whistler last summer on the 04 Boxxer WC -vs- an 05 888, and I thought the extra inch of travel made a huge difference.

Uhh, that's what she said too. :thumb:

I do agree with Dave that the extra inch of travel is better. I have ridden the 2004 888 and Boxxer back to back and you can tell a difference. The 888 was on a V10 and the Boxxer was one my VP Free. Head tube angles were verified to both be 66 degrees at static condion.

If you are running 2" of sag, you really only have 5" of positive travel with the 7" travel fork. An 8" travel fork would give you 20% more positive travel. Also, for fork can be run softer with more travel.

I know I like the 13" of travel I have on my other bike. Too bad my DH bike doesn't have the 35 horsepower at the rear wheel that my other bike has. ;)

i think the stiffness is probably a very minor factor when deciding between the 04 and 05.

you might find the fact that the 05 is sprung differently a more important factor actually, you see, the 04 stock springs are a bit to stiff for a 160-170lbs rider, whereas the 05 comes perfectly sprung for that rider weight.

fork weight between the 05 and 04 team, is exactly the same when you take them out of the box.

so its really all about that extra inch.
