damn, can SRAM stick it to the consumers. some of you may remember my wife's fork getting mangled in transit. well, to get a functional fork which will replace it, i've got to order a different crown and springs; why can't these things just be swapped out??? my shop says SRAM can't do this. which is stupid because now i'll have a drop crown and firmer springs that i have no need for. insurance is picking up the cost, so it's not out of my pocket, but i imagine it would be otherwise.

what the hell? does joe schmoe get reamed regularly?

I thought Boxxers came sans crown? When I was looking to purchase one a few years back, thats how it was. The springs I "somewhat" understand.....

I think this year you get a crown and you can choose which want you want at the time of order (tall or low/flat)?

That is the reason why I stay away from rockshox. I have a couple buddies who still ride these forks and all they ever have is problems with them. Secondly they act like they don't even care about the people riding their products. This is just my opinion and why I stay with marzocchi so I don't have to worry about all this bs.

Not directed at you deelux but just spawned from your comment...

If Rock Sux and Sram are the same company and everybody has CS issues with Rock Shox why would anybody want to use a Sram drivetrain... It's inevitable that eventually the customer service department for rock shox will become sram customer service or sram customer service will become rock shox's customer service, along with truvative now. I've heared good and bad about any of the brand names under the sram corporate umbrella, are they acutally the same company or do they have definate separation where customer service is concerned?

well this wasn't intended as a bash rockshox thread; i've had very good performance from my '02 boxxer, and the fork is a good fit for my wife (light enough, not skyscraper high like a stock 888). i just can't figure out why companies don't allow like-for-like swaps on a new item?

do manitou and marzocchi allow spring swaps?

I know marzocchi doesnt allow spring swaps. If you want a heavier spring at the time of ordering, they charge you extra $$ and just put it in the box with your fork. Im fairly sure manitou is the same way.

Sram owns Rock Shox, Avid, and Truvativ. However, only Sram and Avid are located in Chicago. Rock Shox is still in Colorado Springs, CO, and Truvativ is still in San Luis Obispo, CA. Same company, different locations and different departments.

what dexter said is correct, however customer service for all but truvatiov is out of chicago. CS for truvativ will be out of chicago in 2006 (thanks god, truvativ CS has major issues)

so all of these companies with so called horrible CS are not being handled by Sram now, but will be in the future. I'm hoping that is a step in the right direction but I can't help but think that all the poor CS might drag down Sram as they try to centralize in Chicago.

The good news is that at least Truvativ has had good CS in the past (both for dealers and consumers), so maybe a few of their guys will stay on. It's also possible that SRAM merely bought the company to get their profit margins and are going to leave the lower-level management and employees "as is" for a little while. Who knows.

I agree with the springs not being exchangeable as well. I worked with the CS guys and was able to exchange the drop crown for a flat one last year so I've had a pretty good experience with them...
