Hi,

I got a brand new boxxer race 2007, and the first time I did ride it, it wasn'nt a great feeling.

The fork don't absorb little bumps, first of all. I weight 145 pound and I switched the stock coil for a soft one. For those who ride a boxxer race 2007, what are your setting of rebound and compression?

Also, on the left stanchions, each time it compress, there's like a grey **** that sticks to the stanchions, but it's not oil or something liquid, it's like rubber or things like that. What's the problem??

Well, when I say that I rode it, I rode it all the day, like for 6-7 hours....

I've taken off the stanchions of the lower and I saw what was the problem for the grey thing that sticks to it, but I didn't saw what was the problem for the little bumps.

For those who ride a boxxer race 2007, please tell me your settings.

I ride a 2006, but 06-08 races and teams are for better or worse - identical inside.

The grey **** is assembly grease most likely, or some form of grease mixed with grit. The reason its not "sensitive" to small bumps is that on the race, unlike the team the floodgate is not easily adjustable.

The race comes with the floodgate technically "fully closed" and that will definately effect beginning stroke suppleness (wow that doesnt sound gay). basically your low speed compression is jacked all the way on and while it may not bob at all when its pedalling, your going to pay the price on smaller bumps. What also sucks is that it's not adjustable - from the outside. if you're willing to invest 1hr max, you can however modify your motion control unit to allow internal adjustment to the floodgate, and achieve a happy medium of floodgatage, or just remove it completly if your more of a no platform person.

To fix this all you need is a M5 threaded nyloc nut - about $0.60 at a decent hardware store. I'm not gonna waste my time telling you how to do the rest, but if you read through UDi's thread, "adjusting the shim stacks in the boxxer world cup" or something like that (just look through the first like 5 pages of the DH forum, its definately there, and its full of information), you will learn ALOT about your fork, and how to do this modification, essentially giving you the low speed compression adjustment of the team for $200 less. realize im not being an ass, but you will benefit greatly from learning this stuff yourself now that I've given you the resources.

lates!

The blue knob dictates low speed compression, not the floodgate. A fully closed floodgate doesn't mean that your low speed compression is wound all the way on, it means that your high speed blow off is set very high, the end result being that you basically end up with a simple orifice damper when you wind on a few clicks of lsc (ie way overdamped on high speed inputs.) Floodgate only comes into effect if you're running a fair bit of lsc. If you have the low speed wound all the way off there's heaps of oil flow through the single base valve port so the floodgate is made redundant.

I'm 145lb with an 08 Boxxer race. I'm running an x-soft spring, three preload spacers and the nut mod set to 28.5mm from the end of the MCU stack (ie with the base valve off.) Oil is 11cSt, rebound is full fast. This makes the compression adjuster much more usable - I can wind on heaps of lsc yet sill have it blow off nicely. I normally run the lsc two or three clicks back from all the way on (although three clicks back is quite noisy - swish noises etc...)

Read this thread from post 195 onwards for the nut mod.

Making sure that your seals are greased and that you've got enough oil in the lowers is a good thing too.

^ I wasn't trying to be that specific, just give him the jist of it, thats why I suggested reading the boxxer tuning thread by UDI that you have also referenced.

For the grey stuff on the stanctions...

quite a few boxxers seem to be having this problem now that I've taken notice, and specifically on the left leg. Why only the left leg? I dunno. But what I do know is wrong with mine is the upper 10mm bushing is worn through. Manufacturing tolerances off? Perhaps - since it is common to be a problem exclusive to the left leg, that seems like a good answer, but who knows. You'll hafta most likely replace the bushing, as well as the lower oil and upper dust seal. Thatll run you close to $80-$100 worth of goodies depending on where you buy 'em, and more if you don't feel like being adventourus and doing it yourself. Then theres also the buying the new lowers route - which comes with new bushings, seals, and an extra maxle - For $160. Tough call.

Of course thats only the reason why my boxxer race has black almost plastic like stuff sticking to its left leg, yours may be different.

-The black stuff and the bushings have definately reduced my small bump compliancy, just to let you know, wells its reduced all compliancy really.

The grime that shows up on the left stanction is from the fact that either: A) at the factory they don't put any oil in the bottom of this side of the fork.....just a wod of grease. B) they put 10-15 cc in this side and the wod of grease soaks it up. If you take the lowers off, clean out the grease. Put in 15-30cc of 15 weight oil. DO NOT put more than 15 cc in the RIGHT leg though. (MoCo side!) Works a treat for e'ryone i've done it for!! Good luck.

I just got a 2009 boxxer race and I noticed thant when I turn the blue compression knob from fully open I hear a noise when compressing the fork.
The noise seems to come from the motion control assembly and it comes in the first part of travel.
Any suggestions?

Also the fork has 5-10mm of "dead travel" (when i pull up the handlebar the fork goes down a little).
I already added a preload spacer to see if it was a spring problem but it doesn't seem to be that.

And last question: does the '09 race have the blackbox speedstack?
