just finished a small thingy to save some weight on boxxers

its a firefly ti spring plus a type 3 judy spring with the type 3 spring connector

gets awfully close to 200mm travel, weighs just over 200 grams and according to my initial testing it should provide a spring rate similar to two medium springs.

ill test it tomorrow but so far it looks promising, note that the complete spring is only 4mm longer than a stock firm spring and lighter too.

does anyone know the exact spring rate for this stock firefly spring?

That's cool, I have been wanting to that to my Dorado for some time, problem is that the firefly springs are of alrger diameter than the regular Dorado springs.
Also just note for anyone interested in doing this only the med and stiff springs are made of Ti for the Firefly, soft ones are steel. Also looks like Manitou is out of stock on Ti springs for the Firefly and is now shipping steel ones as replacements until they can get restocked which I am told could be months.

just weighed the spring contraption

220g for the whole stack

compare with the stock yellow spring at 230g EACH

226g = 0,5lbs

so potential for a half pound savings if im not way off with the spring rate calculations i did.

That's just crazy enough to work! :thumb:

No I think he was meaning that the spring stack is capable of 200mm of compression which would mean it's more than enough for the Boxxer it will be going in.

They Do, but you are only using 1 spring to begin with with the mojo, so your weight savings is minimal.

The 2005 boxxer will come with ti springs stock. No one sells "standard" ti boxxer springs as of yet.
yea the 05 world cups have ti springs stock, i was just wondering if anyone else was making ti springs for the boxxer as we wont get 05 rock shox spares over here for a while yet.

this is cool, but isnt the 05 WC going to be 8" also? with Ti?....granted I have a 04 WC and TI would be cool, I had a friend that was going to make myself and a friend some Ti springs for front and rear but he bitched out :( Im curious to hear more aobut your "invention" :D

What are you going to do about the reduced bushing overlap to keep the fork from folding in half?!

theres not much to do, anyway , you have to push the lower bushing up about an inch and then you can see quite clearly that the new 8" forks practically will have one continuous bushing since there is little space between the top and lower bushing with the 7" bushings already, and the 8" boxxer doesnt have any form of extended lowers.

it really doesnt look like the new fork can be much stiffer no matter how much more bushing they put in there.
