Brand new wheel makes high pitch squeal

i've put about 15 miles on a brand new Mavic Crosstrail (with Mavic lefty hub) when half way through today's ride, I noticed a high pitch squealing coming from the front wheel. I flipped the bike over and spun the wheel to check if the brake disc was rubbing against the pad. Nope. Double and triple checked it but the wheel was spinning freely.

Long story short, the pitch is coming from the either (1) the hub or (2) the axle. I have a lefty fork and just mounted the wheel last wheel so my best hope is the axle just has to be relubed. However, after reading the online forums about Mavic hubs, I' beginning to suspect a hub problem. The wheel went through a bit of water yesterday but nothing that should damage the hub. Odd thing is several hours after my ride, the noise appears to be gone. The lefty fork/axle creeks abit when the wheel is spun but the squeal is largely gone.

Any ideas on what the noise could be? I could still send the wheel back to the e-tailer. All this is a bummer since I had to wait bikeless for 3 weeks waiting for a wheel ...

Brake might rub when you have weight on it. Pull the caliper off and zip-tie it to the fork leg, so there's no chance of brake noise. See if you can get it to make noise then.
