I'm desperate.I have a 2001 Giant XTC3 NRS. The derailleur hanger has snapped 6-7 times over the time I have had it and its happening more often lately. When it's healthy its a great ride but its not reliable It seems to go when I do small jumps. The chain lenghth is right, and I have changed the rear cluster, derailleur, chain rings and chain since the problem started. Has anyone had this problem. One suggestion is to replace hanger with stronger one. I'm worried that I'll damage the frame or derailleur. Another is that the frewheel hub is faulty but it seems to run OK. Local bike mechanics are also baffled.
Cheers from NZ

i have the exact same frame and i have never had the slightest problem with it. the only thing i can really think about is this: The chainstays on the NRS are "unique" and sometimes encourage derailleur slap. if the hanger was already slightly damaged, you might be able to slap the derailleur against it hard enough to break it, especially if you don't have the little screw on the frame that puses the derailleur around (b-tension i think?) adjusted right.

I would go ahead and try a stronger one, they're onlw what 10 bucks?

good luck

We have sold more than twenty NRS and I don't think I have had to replace more than a couple of hangers and those were stick or crash damaged.
Did this start after a crash or some other damage? Do they fail in the same place every time? Can your shop bring a Giant tech support person in on it?

I'm not familiar with the axle path on these bikes, but if your chain tightens as the suspension compresses, your chain may seem to be the right length with the bike unweighted and be too short when the suspension compresses. Just a thought.:)
