I'm interested in buying a basic beer brewing kit off the internet, but I've got no idea what I'm doing. Is it a huge PITA? I know it takes four weeks...anyone here make their own and have any suggestions on kits too look for/things to avoid?

I just stuck my first ever batch into the fermenter. Go to northernbrewer.com and get a glass starter kit and an extract kit. Some other things you will need, a 5+ gallon pot to boil your wort at least, doing that on the stove takes forever so a propane burner is also helpful. You'll also need 50 or so empty beer bottles for racking once the fermentation is complete. It's not rocket science, go get your gear, follow the directions, have fun and enjoy your beer.
It's easy, just keep everything sanitary so you don't get junk growing in your beer.

NiIice...it looks like a weizen.
Just looks that way because it hasn't settled out yet. The left hand fermenter is an Irish Red, the one with the thermometer is a Winter Warmer.
