Some products are getting the distance they travel put on the label.

In the little that I do for the good of the planet, I try to buy as local as possible. Obviously some products can't be grown here, but if it can, I'll buy it at the farmer's market.
There's no guarantee that the produce at the farmer's market is local, sadly enough.

This is a good thing. Since "organic" has been co-opted by big agri-business, you really need to look beyond the label as much as you can. It's not easy but with this kind of thing at least you can make an informed decision.

And SS, it must really suck to be so cynical.

Yeah - easy for you to say living in the fruit/veg basket of America. Even the local produce around here is crap most of the time.

The stuff out of my garden is good, though. :D

You'll have to pardon my cynicism this afternoon. I'm dealing with Windows/Unix interoperability issues.

I would love to be able to eat the '100-mile diet'...or even better the '100 feet diet'. It is too bad & very sad most American's relationship with their food consists of driving through a window to pick it up or opening a can/box & turning on a microwave.

AND....-SS- is always on the rag. You guys aren't used to it? :D
