I've already had friends come up to me saying "OMG did you know Rob Bell is a Universalist?" with a concerned air thinking I too may have parktaken of the Kool Aid as well. I've been openly posting on my FB and such links about Rob's book in a effort see who'll turn on me.......I'm actually looking forward to it...........

I was wondering / hoping this would pop up on the PAWN.

I really like Rob, I've been listening to him since 2002 and have met him a few times. He inspired me to dive into the historical / contextual study of the Scriptures which pretty much shaped my faith journey and leaving the SB church.

I've been staying up to date on the sh!tstorm Rob's detractors have stirred up.
This has been my favorite commentary so far on it:
Beliefnet Blog

Sadly I know this from direct experience.........

I read about this a few days ago and find the reactions that are described in that Beliefnet entry to be infuriatingly absurd, demonstrating so much of what is wrong with conservative strains of Christianity today.

I couldn't agree more, John Piper (whom I really wasn't fond of to begin with) really showed is a$$ there.

Yeah, it's my way of "culling the herd" so to speak..........

You know what they say, you can take a guy out of the USMC, but you can't take the USMC out of the guy.

I did that with some inlaws years back. My inlaws are a bunch of Roy Masters (Foundation of Human Understanding) freaks. Got a little lit and spouted off about how crazy they were to pay a ton of money to send their kids to his school when they were all flat broke.

Had to look him up as I had neither herd of him or the "foundation". Wow. That kind of crazy is typically reserved for The Dalles and Colorado Springs. You were right, they had it coming.

Yes, he is a big deal in Grants Pass and uses a "church" as a tax shelter for his mega millions. There are a lot of people outside of GP that will straight call it a cult, but they get a little bent when you say it to their face as I did. :D

People in my family know better than to bring religion up around me drunk or sober.
