my mother heard something on the radio about Bromont loosing two premier events, one of which may be the Worlds Masters? seems some promoters from BC made a better offer?

oh and the rumors that MMike was trying to propagate about B scrapping biking on the basis that DM Cycle dissapeared....well it didnt. In fact it just bought a ton of Devincis as its main line. Also there are supposed to be new trails made mostly on the other side of the hill....something about the condos encroachment on some trails.

I never said it would be cancelled, i just said watch to see a decline in the program. IE trail maintenance, races etc. I was right, they refused to pay any money for worlds, so it has moved.

The bike shop is also gone due to $ considerations. So yes, I was right. Bite me!

I think Bromont messed up big by not bucking up some $$$ for the Masters. For the past 3 years, we have made 2 trips to freeride at Bromont plus the long weekend for the master's race. This year, I would be surprised if anyone will make the 12 hour drive verses going to Mountain Creek since it has a way better lift. I have no reason to put up with slow lifts since I don't need to train for the master's. Well, except for the fact that the new go cart track about 10 minutes away rules.

A second plus to staying out of Quebec is I can't speak French. :)

I do like riding there, but they were stupid to not pay the small amount of money that the promoter was looking for.

i dunno, there might be more to the story. I know that Bromonts really been trying to push the 4 seasons approach to mountain resorts and were showing off the fact they carried these events in the press articles i read. Maybe its a problem with the promoters and not the mountain?

Could be. What I do know is that my team mate (wallstreetbiker) spoke to the promoter. He reported that Bromont would not help to subsidize the race. Even if the ski area would not, the local community should have. That race brings in several hundred Master's racers that spend a ton of money in the community. Heck, there were 15 of us that dropped $100 each at the go cart track during the weekend of the race. I personally spent about $500 for the weekend race with food, lodging and entertainment. Now, I will be spending it at Sun Peaks. Too bad since it was a great race at Bromont. Probably the best big race anywhere other than the US Open.

That said, I don't see the 50-100 americans making it to Sun Peaks since it is located in BFE. We are going to try to do the master's and then ride Whistler for a few days.

sounds like the promoter just couldnt get things together. If its economically feasible and they can show it, then there would be no reason why the cash wouldnt be there

Huh?

Whatever the real reason, the promoter claims Sun Peaks is more profitable for him. In the end, it is a loss for Bromont and the East Coast racers that could drive to the race. Again, it was a great race and I am sad to see it go.

its not only that Sun Peaks is more profitable, its that Sun Peaks is doing everything they can to
a) compete with Whistler
b) get a World Cup berth in the next couple years, and this is a big test for them in the eyes of the UCI

the race promoter's is the same at Sun Peaks and they have held World Cups and World Cup masters at Bromont for years, probably is time to move along.

Bromont is going down.

the plan for this year is to build condos where the # 5,6 and 7 trails were plus a bunch of xc trails (see the green area on the map below)they say they will build more trail on the other side of the mountain, but the last time they said that it took 2 years to build one small trail..

as for the races, the masters is the first race to leave bromont, the main reason mention on the newspaper is that bromont did not want to put the 50 000$ needed to host the event, they wanted to put 10 000$ and have the rest of the amouth paid by the community.

Riders around here wants to help build trails, bromont refuse their help!

I really think that bromont is going down...they just dont care about the bike, water slides and condos brings more money to the place and it'S all they really care....Their attitude is the same that MT-Tremblant had before closing to bikes...my prediction is that there will be no bike allowed at bromont in 2 years...

the DM sport shop is officially gone, it's been announce by the owners on the dhracer forum last fall.
