We are hitting Bromont this weekend. Any clue where the Master's course is going to be this year? Hopefully, it will be the old World Cup course (Trail 18 or 19 or whatever it is).

And Luc, where are you staying? We might have space.

I think there is a good chance that it will be on the World Cup trail since it was over on the other side of the mountain last year, but nothing official has been posted as of yet.

I believe they are trying to keep the course a secret, due to the vast number of locals who compete int he event and get about 6 weeks worth of practice in. The other racers started to complain about this.

not that it makes a difference, since they would already know anyhting thats already on the mountain...

big difference between knowing it, and practicing a race course
Yeah, like last year when half the world had knew where the course was and had ridden the course before the race.

Fraser: You going to be out at Bromont this weekend?

Rumor and speculation department:

you know that gnarly face just under the chairlift near the top where they dont even open it up for skiers? well theres an orange zig-zagging line painted down it where the new MC course will be cut out.....

Ooooooooooh...I didn't even think of that!! Man, if you fall, you end up tumbling down a bunch of rocks for a while!

actually, if they cut it nice it wont be that bad from the line they chose. It'll be super-slow-techy tho.

hey you wanna pool-car again tomorrow?

Your right on the rumor of the orange marked trail under the chairlift. It is definatly marked. It is seriously steep. A couple of the guys I was riding with hiked it on Sunday after a mechanical took out a bike.

That said, there is no way the 60+ year old riders are going to ride that line. They complained at the riders meeting last year about the steep rock face near the end of last years course. They had better put in some fencing to catch the tumblers.

I also heard that they were going to run it down trail 18. Close to the same as last years course. The only trail with any recent maintance was the World Cup course. That would be my vote (as if the racers had one).

That orange line has been there for like 2 months. It is the latest in their new line of "stupid west coast north shore style, brake slide yoru heart out" trails.

I wish they would spend time fixing the existing trails rather then attempting to build idiotic brake sliding trails.

That said, I am heading up thursday with Heiki.

I totally agree! I was up there on Sunday and today (Monday) and it's nasty at some places...

Ya, they definetly still have some work to due to the dynamiting for the new lift, new ski runs being cut and the giant flood a few weeks ago.

Hoepfully they are focusing on some of the badass trails they already have and will only start these goofy new ones once everything else is in tip top shape.

Who knows maybe that is why it has been there for 2 months, they are waiting till everything else is in order..

Exactly what I was thinking all weekend. I have been to Bromont 2-3 weekends every year for the past 3 years. This past weekend was the worst condition the trails have been in. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good time.

Believe it or not, Trail 9 was a good time on a DH bike since they made some changes near the top to eliminate the mud bog uphills. It is now one of my favorite trails there.

And while the trail under the lift might be a fun freeride trail, it would be a horrible race course. It would be blown to bits after the first practice session from all the skidding.

Fraser: you going to make it out for some freeriding during the master's?

I am pretty sure i will be there that weekend if it isnt a complete zoo. I try to avoid that place on weekends when it becomes a madhouse. I love going midweek and not seeing another solitary person on the trails, it's awesome.

I may go ride with everyone during practice, and then just hang out and watch on sunday and take some pictures.

ya..that under the lift section is the complete opposite of what Bromont is... stupid steep and straight down the fallline.
I hope that's not in the course or part of a new trail...That stuff is what you expect from Sunday River (RIP) or Jiminy Peak or Attitash...IE...not Downhillin...more like Brake humpin.
Bromont is so cool cause your brake pads last you all year. :D
I'll be up there Friday night into Sunday night...anyone going?...otherwise I'm riding solo..which is always fun but sometimes I like to share the crack pipe.

oh and the next weekend (28/29) I plan on heading up Wednesday thru Sunday....anyone available to rip some trails during the week?
peace
