I'm putting in an early application for biggest idiot move of 2006. I was on my local ride, just on the road through the hills near my house. The road is quite windy and I almost never see cars there. It has a lot of hairpin turns that are fun to rail even though it's obviously no great challenge. The corners are blind and the road is narrow and on the corners are fish-eye type mirrors (like you might see in a parking garage) so as I come into the corner I was always check the mirror before I committ to the corner. I've had a few sketchy moments mainly due to people not seeing me early enough but nothing too bad.
Today I was cruising down the hill, in a total dreamworld, not really paying attention to what I was doing. I reached the last blind corner, checked the mirror and started leaning into the corner. At the last moment a car appeared in the mirror (those kind of mirrors always make things look closer than they actually are). I was shocked out of my daydream and in a panic grabbed a handful. Well you can all guess what happened next I'm sure. VB hit the road hard right in front of this car. I tried to roll away as I thought the car was gonna run over me but she could stop easily (she might have been going 15kmhr- real slow anyway). I hit on my right side, knee, hip and elbow bearing the brunt. I was as sore as buggery but I ran a hand over my collarbone and it seemed intact although my shoulder hurt. I must have scared the living christ out of this woman. She got out of the car apologising profusely but I told her it wasn't her fault at all.
I picked up my bike and rode off but couldn't really grip the bars properly and stopped and got my missus to pick me up. I couldn't lift my arm and I thought I might have dislocated my shoulder. So my missus picks me up and takes me to the hospital. The doctor did a bit of poke and a prod and sent me off to get an MRI and some X-rays. First time I'd been in an MRI machine. It's bizarre, the noises the bloody thing makes, like listening to techno on mushrooms. Was kinda cool.
So I got back to the examination room and the doc delivered the verdict. A fracture at the very top of my humerous. FFFFFFAAAAARRRRKKKKK. He gave me sling and a prescription and told me to come back tomorrow when the specialist will be there.
The pills he gave seem to work pretty good so I'm not in too much pain. Ribs hurt a bit so I must have hit my side pretty good but my shoulder doesn't hurt as long as I keep really still.
So that's my story. I'm kinda embarrassed, such a rookie move.: Feel free to abuse me and call me a dickhead. I deserve it.
