What is the largest tire you can fit on the rear of a bullit and is there a way to increase the travel to 8"?
I dont know and yes, although the travel increase obviously voids the warrenty.

To increase travel go to Avalanche Downhill Racing. Good explanation there.

Largest tire depends on year.

People will be giving you Sh$% for this because:

1) They are jealous of your Bullit
2) Doesn't look like you did a search of the forum
3) Hazing is kind of cool (for some people)

You want to buy an '04 bullit, then take off the progressive shock and put a longer shock on it to get more than 7"?
This will raise the rear of the bike, raise the bb, and steepen the head tube angle. Are you sure you want that?
More travel isn't always better.
I just did the opposite of what you want to do to a similiar bike because I wanted it to be more downhill friendly, and it worked very well.
The bullit is a great bike. You should ride it first, do some drops, adjust the shock, etc. first before re-engineering the bike, unless I have misunderstood you, then I'm sorry.

A 2.6" x 26" gazz is pretty tight for clearance.

Thanks i was just wondering about the travel thing, pure curiosity. I have an 8" bighit now w/an 888 and am trying to figure what I should get next. I would like to keep the 888. Was wondering if a 2.7 maxxis or 2.75 arrow would fit on it. Thanks for the help twisted.

Keep your big hit. If you want to spend some money put a new rear shock on it with spv, if you still have the old rc.
Can't go wrong with the lifetime warranty. If you want something that looks different check out http://www.somefeargear.com/main.htm they have graphics for big hits. Or you can paint your bike. Check out the pic.

I was thinking of having the rc "pushed" but I also am looking for something a little shorter, the small bh is huge. Btw painting the frame voids the warranty already looked into it. Maybe a demo 9. The Special ed lifetime warranty is nice

OK
Have you tried to make your BH feel smaller? A shorter stem and / or rotating your bars back towards you helps. Get a zero offset seatpost.
I'm pretty short and I like tighter bikes.
Push the RC. It seems to be the cool thing to do.
Click the link I posted for the graphics, cool stuff.
Hope this helps,
Tim

ive got a bullit 04 and i think the biggest u can fit is a 2.5 maybe a 2.6, with still being able to have room enougt for mudd and all. but yah look at nokian tires they are just insanely big, i have a 3'' up front and it adds like 1.5'' of travel.

VP Free is too tall for my short legs. Few bikes I am thinking of demo 9, orange 223, bullit,v10, ventana el cuervo, astrix huckster. But haven't seen the last 2 in person yet.

I have 24 X 2.7 high rollers on mine, and knew a guy with 24 X 3.0 Gazzi's on the back of his.

haven't read the rest of the thread but regarding the travel:

i'm using a 2.75" x 8.75" Manitou Swinger (which SC said they'd be using this year or next on the Bullit, probably other models too) and it's fine. gives me 7.7" travel (198mm) and gives better head/seat angles. the increse in shock length from the standard 5th to my Manitou is around 6-9mm. The shuttle mount thing moves 10mm so place it in the 'slack' positon and the geometry is still steeper than the standard 5th shock on the steeper shock position.

7.7" might not be 8" but its more than enough in my opinion.

Those bikes are all over the spectrum. Do you want one that jumps well? Do want a racey bike? Do you want a freeride bike with a lifetime warranty?
Or are you just looking for a bike that you think looks good?
Besides, don't bullits have crappy standover? The 223's isn't that great either.

If you do the 8" upgrade, usually a 24" rear wheel is required to keep it from bottoming on the seat post. I know a guy who did it with a Romic. Put the shuttle in the slack position and put a 9x3 shock on with a 24" rear. It works, but seriously reduces the bikes versatility, which is what makes the Bullit great in the first place IMO. Just leave it how it is and smooth up your riding.

I have the most modified Bullit in the Universe - 2002.5 frame (when they went with the straight seat tube and transfer-plate head tube gussets) with a 3" Avy (8" of rear wheel travel), 24" rear wheel (you can jam a 24" Arrow 2.7 in there - Maxxis 2.7s have lots of room) and a floating brake.

The longer shock does alter the head angle slightly, but the 24" rear wheel acually makes it lower and slacker than stock. Of course Santa Cruz doesn't recommend any of these modifications, but what do they know?

C'mon...everyone knows a Michelin Comp 32 fits. I ran one for a few weeks...sucked, but fit fine. (claimed 2.8") Serious sluggishness.

I realize that they are all over the place. I'm trying to narrow things down. I'm looking for something that handles well, that i'm comfortable on and I can throw around. I've ruled out the V-10 and the astrix. Looking good is not something I worry about at all.
