For the first time in the poll, Bush’s approval rating has sunk below 40 percent, while the percentage believing the country is heading in the right direction has dipped below 30 percent. In addition, a sizable plurality prefers a Democratic-controlled Congress, and just 29 percent think Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers is qualified to serve on the nation’s highest court.

"Any way you slice this data, I think these are just terrible sets of numbers," said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

But this doesn't answer the question of whether or not humans and fish can peacefully coexist.

Not that I am for this, but I am not sure what a Republican Congress has to do with out problems today. Bush declared war on Iraq, Bush appointed Michael Brown (although Senate-approved), and the deficit is growing thanks to the war and Katrina.

I would like to see a Democratic congress but I don't blame the current makeup for our problems.

Checks and balances, my man. Bush couldn't have taken America for a ride, if Congress hadn't bent over and presented themselves to him like a cat in heat. They have continually seceded power to the executive branch every time Bush has asked for it (going to war without declaring war, anyone?), and they have failed to exercise their powers of oversight when it was necessary.

That goes for both the Democrats and the Republicans.

Yeah, but they've been doing that for 50 years.

Now, the budget stuff has been out of control, and you can blame the Republicans for that one...
