The article appeared in our local paper. Very detailed, and I find it interesting how the Bush party has really turned the OIRA into a functional part of the government.

What do you guys think of having a team of individuals trying to quantify in monetary terms the "costs" of the environment in order to either pass laws to protect it, or undo laws that currently protect it (such as the Roadless thingy from the last days of the Clinton administration)?

At this point it appears that they don't know how to "quantify" the value of protecting endangered species, but they sure as heck know how to "quantify" the costs of not developing a region - seems ot me it spells bad news for the things we're trying to protect out here.

Not a big surprise that the WA reps voted against this guy and remain disapproving of his methods and results.

It's actually a pretty legitimate technique. In this case I think it's being biased and abused by political and private interests, but with proper information and the correct intentions, it's a valuable tool for certain situations.

Yep, I agree with that Ohio. I was also fishing for comments from our steadfast supporters of the regime in place currently.

We've had a lot of debates about the importance of the environment and how this current administration is really making drastic changes, and with quiet, under the table techniques. After reading the article, I'm glad our state representatives do not support the current use of this department.

But then, we all know Washington always ends up on the democrat side ;) swing state or not...hehe
