You people look for anything to blast so you can call him an idiot, and though he may be, you guys arent looking so bright right now.
We don’t have to LOOK… every time he opens his mouth there is an opportunity to call him an idiot. Did you see the press conference this morning about the new press secretary (Fox news pundit - big surprise)? He tried to deliver a joke, but since he was reading it (poorly) the delivery was so awful that no one reacted. He looked like an idiot... as usual.

And your opinion about who looks bright right now... is on par with Bush.

p.s. it’s aren’t… not arent genius.

I would bet that this "trail" was a gravel road. Hell, I guarantee it.

We have alot of fire roads that criss cross through the forests in northern California, such as this one:

They are wide enough (at times) to get an SUV through. They are not gravel roads though, most of the time they are multi-use trails. Driving an SUV down them for any reason other than a FIRE or other duties that a ranger may need is idiotic.

This didn't promote an earth-friendly attitude in the public eye. It promotes a "go ahead and drive your SUV through a pristine forest" kind of attitude. Bush is an irresponsible moron, plain and simple.

All this just a day after removing environmental restrictions on the production of Gasoline.

It is lame that a President who has done so much that has damaged the Earth takes time out to celebrate 'Earth Day'.

I think that's the point most people are upset about.

Really fvcktard, cause I could swear it was YOU who just said:

He could have planted a tree or visited a recycling center or talked to kids about the environment. Instead he used Earth Day for "Me Time".

The best compliment you can get in an e-argument is when someone runs out of material so bad, that they have to insult you for a typo or missing apostrophe. Great job, fella. You may as well have just posted a picture of a big white flag.

Ok, let me change that to "Riding a bike on Earth Day is cool for everyone who does not have the kind of responsibilty that Mr. Bush is supposed to have."

Better?

Riding a bike on Earth Day?

Cool.

Riding a bike on the road on Earth Day?

Cool.

Riding a mountian bike over saturated terrain in an area that THIS WINTER was declared a disaster area because of floods and MUDSLIDES? ? With a convoy of gas guzzlers? When there are a million other un-selfish ways to put across a good message to the American people on Earth Day?

Sorry, but - un-fvkcing cool.

He's the POTUS, he shouldn't have time for clearing brush on a ranch for a month and riding around in wine country while the US is in a war that he started.

Burly, aside from your devil's advocate position on just about everything, (you do it well BTW - instant asshole, just add topic :D ) You have to admit that he is a total fvcktard.

I guess this goes back to that I could really give a **** about earthday. But really do you KNOW that he didnt plant a tree with some kids that day?
The guy was riding his bike on earthday on trails that you're speculating may have been bad to ride on. Of course, any time the guy rides, he's going to have a convoy, so that's really a non issue. Showing that he MTBs is a good thing.

He may have killed some kids for Dick Cheney to feast on. I must admit I don't know if he planted a tree or not.

If he DID plant a tree, and nobody in the American press knew about it, then his PR person should be shot.

One rider's opinion:

I also tried to go mountain biking in Napa on Sunday. We went to Skyline Park and found out that bikes and horses were not allowed that day.

We drove to Fairfield and did Rockville, which holds extremely well in the rain.

During the last two months, I have been mountain biking maybe 7 times (I was on the road about 35 days). I have been avoiding the trails because of all the rain. I'm not talking about a mud puddle, or even riding through a swamp. There has been massive erosion all around the Bay Area. Homes have been lost, major highways closed for the long term, and people have died.

Riding on the these trails right now, particularily in Napa where they have received the most rain (about 50 inches in the last two months) is a bad idea.

I know most of us might not consider that, especially when it comes to our Sunday rides. But it was a bad idea to ride there, much less bring a motorized entourage.

sanjuro, you obviously don't know what you are talking about. burly's got a much better handle on the local trail conditions over there than you do.

plus, it never rains in bush's world. 24/7 sunshine!

Here's a good read:

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/04/25/bush-biking/

...the Palm Springs Desert Sun reported that by riding through the area, Bush had ignored the “voluntary avoidance” guidelines at the Monument. The guidelines are meant to protect a species of endangered bighorn sheep...

Yes, yes, so we have a President who thinks it's cool to ride his bike around on Earth Day. Like it reassures everyone that he is not the most environmentally backwards leader we have ever seen. Good, good. Well, Mr. President, why don't you do something for the rest of us mountain bikers and retract your "Roadless Rule" fvckup so we'll have somewhere to ride in 20 years when we've completely deforested ourselves. Or how about you stop having your people change science to allow your bed buddies in the natural resources extraction industry continue to rape the lad we're trying to enjoy. Yes, Happy Earth Day Mr. President. Thank you for sh!tting in my backyard and telling me it doesn't stink. I'm sure Teddy Roosevelt would be proud.

There is simply no way the president was on a mountain biking trail at all. Why is that fact being completely ignored still?

I still think it is funny how it was EARTH day, where you are supposed to be happy with that is around you, and he is doing the right thing, getting out and riding. To bad he has armys of SUV's with security in them following him. I also understands he has to do that, but what point is he really trying to make?

You're wrong. All I have is personal experience riding on Napa trails. Burly's got the intraweb!

I bet you $5,000 I can beat you in a muddy XC race in Napa Valley with at least 3000 feet of descent and no climbing.
