WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people."

Bush signs The Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2005 during a ceremony in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Thursday.

By Pablo Martinez Monsivais, AP

Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.

hey, don't blame the ivy league. first off, he went there many decades ago, when dinner jackets were worn and the schools were much more old boys clubs. second, he went to yale. :dead: ;) third, his grades sucked, at least as an undergrad:

(i'm not sure how well he did at hbs.)

If it was just once, fair enough - everyone makes the occasional mistake, but this guy has done it SO many times. I mean. I'm starting to think he means it. I mean he actually is finding ways to harm the American people - Exposing you to more terrorism, you're all gonna be working till you're 120 because of the defecit, there'll be no where to go MTBing because it'll be a toxic wasteland.

How about next time we all try an make an effort to vote for people who can string a sentance together - it does seem like a fairly basic indicator of competence right? It's not just me who'd expect the President of the United States of America to be able to speak English with the competence of at least a 12 year old? Or is it?

well, anyone who thinks Bush is dumb is pretty stupid themselves.
Why? Through his actions and responses to domestic and international situations, he has shown himself to be either:

a) Corrupt as fvck and only out for himself and his neocon agenda

or

b) A complete retard

Personally I think it's both. What has he done to prove his intelligence for you?

:stupid: It's all his little screw ups and poor speaches that make people think he is just like them. He's just good folk, and for the general population that makes him trustworthy.

It's just good acting...

Riiiight.

I think that Patrick Starfish on Sponge Bob Square Pants is just slightly more stupid than GWB.

I think he's stupid. Dumber than Forrest Gump, but perhaps smarter than Patrick Starfish :D

Sure he happened to be born lucky...with his parentage and ineptness at anything else, he does make a good figurehead.

I didn't say he was a genius, nor a great public speaker... I simply implied that his IQ is over 100. He's not dumb, stupid, or retarded. Is he "smart" enough to be PotUS? Well, he is, so it's a moot point. Do I like Bushism? Not as a citizen, but I sure as fvck do as a fan of comedy.

Slugger, I'm not so sure about the acting part, but I agree that it makes him more likeable to the average folk. Tho that's a sad commentary on the voting public.

Look, I'm a horrible public speaker. Get me up at a podium, and I'm like a deer in the headlights. I'm willing to excuse that, because I have the same problem.

Having said that, if you talk to me one on one, I can give you well reasoned and thought out answers to basic questions like "What did you have for breakfast this morning?"

I'm not convinced that Bush can do that, unless Cheney happens to be right next to him to remind him.

What worries me, is what he meant to say.

The fvck-up:
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

What he meant to say(?):
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we ever stop thinking about new ways to harm their country and their people."

If that's right, that's just fvcking great. The Bush administration is activly looking for ways to harm Muslim countries and people? That's just what America needs right now - more enemies. Actually that doesn't suprise me, and is true to form so far, I guess I'm just suprised he tried to actually say it that blatently.

Wow. It is amazing what a jaded perception gets you. Could it be, ENTIRELY POSSIBLE, that Bush meant something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT? :sneaky:

What he meant to say(?):
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we ever stop thinking about new ways THEY CAN harm OUR country and it's people."

Seems you are angry at something YOU made up in your head. Do you really think that is what he meant to say?! or are you being a funny guy again....and I am being MR Oblivious to sacrasm? :o: :)

I think it is humorous the way it came out, but saw it as meant to read much differently making it funny. You think his speach writers wrote that we are looking for ways to hurt them? Think about it....no way is that going to written for a speach even if you beleive that is what he wants.

i don't think that bush meant to say that, and no one truly does, rhino. the point is that there is a gap between bush's thoughts and his words. for a politician in the public and world eye (albeit not so much since he avoids press conferences as documented elsewhere  ) this is unacceptable.

I have never seen any footage of him early on in his political career where he made the mistakes he does now. I think a lot of them are intentional and he does it to win people over.

Being college educated is a minority in the US (25% per ’00 census data - http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/QTTable?_bm=y&-geo_id=D&-qr_name=ACS_C2SS_EST_G00_QT02&-ds_name=D&-_lang=en ), and Bush knows how to use that…

Yeah, it's totally possible - and I admit I am totally jaded to the guy. I find it really hard not to be whenever I look at his record for more than a few seconds. I guess it gets to me more than maybe it should do but I think it's really important the direction that America takes in the World. Makes a lot of difference and... well, you know where I'm going with this..

We'd be shooting 2 tomahawk missles for every WTC they destroyed...every train station they gas, etc.

Innocents would be killed by the missles and the US would be the lapdog of the UN. Terrorist would still be nipping at us and laughing all the way.

Since we are going off of hypotheticals.....:sneaky:

The UN would still be feeling our pain and discussing the best way to fight terrorism and not cut into their own lucrative deals with the Middle east.

Though Gore would have ushered in a new era in the internet. I heard he was almost finished with his Gorenet V2.0. Gore was a good VP...he just kinda sat there praying someone would just shoot Clinton.

Be mad, be angry. but when you do so and get worked up over something like that speach, that for the life of me I can't see the malicious intent. You are not even remotely subjective and cause more harm than good.

BUSH said he was finding ways to Kill you MUSLIMS!.....talk about taking something out of context. :) I am saying there are things you have every right to get worked up over...that just wasn't one of them. It makes taking your legit Bush bashing that much harder to accept. :D

Changleen: I like your other interpretation of his f-up, just makes it that much funnier.
Everyone else: I think that we all know what he was trying to say, the fact that he looks like a fool almost every way that you can read what he actually said is what makes it so funny. (Good sentence eh?. no Tashi, learn to write.)
