Busting out an isis crank bolt

Last time I had my BB changed out the geniuses at East Coast Bikes concluded it would be genius to put locktite on my crank bolts.

Needless to say the drive side didn't come out, its fully stripped, and I have been slamming on it with my drill for the last hour.

The damn bolt refuses to bust out, snap, or do anything other then hold the crank in place. I need to get this off so I can service my pivots on my Nomad before leaving town next week.

Any advice? Would pictures help to show just how SOL I am?

Is the bolt completely drilled out? Your only hope, assuming you don't care about the BB is to drill it and just use a puller.

When you get your crank arm off, go shove it up the wrench's ass that did that.

Not to defend the shop, but keep in mind, on both square taper, ISIS and especially TruVativ PowerSpline (aka fake tiny TruVativ skim-around-patents ISIS) loctite on crank bolts can be a HUGE help. That being said, blue loctite is all you need, and from the sound of it.....someone used either red or green.

My suggestion would be to get a hair-dryer and heat up the area (heat helps to release both green and red loctite) then use an american allen wrench one size bigger than should fit (and tap it into your bolt with a hammer) to try and get that sucker outta there. And if the bolt isn't completely stripped, try using the correct size allen wrench (8mm) and make use of a breaker bar in addition to the wrench.

I had a mechanic friend of mine cut it out with a Dremel and a bunch of those cut off discs. He ground it out enough to tap it loose with a drift punch.

It took lot's of patience and lot's of those little discs. He managed to save the crank however.

Crank and BB met jeebus...
We finally had to take a plasma cutter to the bolt.
It was ugly.
99 kinds of ugly.

But its out now, cleaned the threads in the BB, ordered a new saint single crank with Salsa bash.

I had a rounded ISIS crank bolt a couple of weeks ago, had to be one of the biggest missions I've ever had working on a bike! I ended up drilling it out a as far as I could (after about 8.5mm or whatever the hell that is in imperial, the drill wouldn't have any more of it) then used the dremel to split the head of the bolt in two and take some material off the inside of the bolt then snapped the two halves off the head with a punch. Would have been at least 3 hours of drilling and cutting, not something I want to have to do again!!!

After that I could just whip the crank off and the rest of the bolt came out with fingers, you might have a problem with the loctite though, maybe remove the whole BB then use some heat and a hammer to loosen it up.
