The Campmor store is in New Jersey. Probably to far to drive, but they carry about 10 different manufactures so you can compare build quality.

It's closer than Binghamton. Right near the GW.

Mark:

Have you looked in Sam's or BJ's? I know the Sam's clubs in Albany carry 3 different tents.

I think I have commented early on in this thread *edit* http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89216&highlight=coleman <--that thread :o: :D .......about how impressed I was with my 7x7 coleman Dome tent.

My fiance and I with matresses and gear bags fill it up but we have lots of room.

The best feature is the performance in rain. It has a deap tub(tarp essentially) bottom that stops ground water and a large rain fly that has that pole that opens it up at the front door and rear window. Mine is green and biege.....but at the last DH race I saw a Coleman that was blue and (I think) yellow. It had large mesh sides where mine is normal tent material.

It goes up fast even with one person and goes down faster. :)

Memorial day weekend I was in a downpour for over 24hrs. I was sheltered by trees but getting pelted all day and night. I woke up nervous water wouls have worked it's way in but after a frantic search in the dark I was dry as could be. The tent cost me like $40-50 and they have all sorts of different sizes. The 7x7 works best for us. the foam pads go from end to end and leaves us room for our gear/clothes bags.

I had a crappy old tent...like 20yo crappy. The Coleman blows it way. I give it a thumb up for car camping (not a back backing tent) and value. Other low cost tents didn't really match up with it....in value. I am glad I bought it.

Maybe a 9x7 is a good fit for your family? $60 http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=38470419&memberId=12500226

I bought an EMS Scout 4 tonight - but I may end up bringing it back tomorrow, and purchase a Eureka Tetragon 9 - which is a little bigger, and a little taller, I think the only drawback is less ventilation than the Scout 4. I'm pretty sure I saw it for the same exact price as the Scout 4 tonight - but while at EMS I opted for the Scout 4 to take advantage of their buy 4 and get the 4th free deal.

Here's the Tetragon 9 - whattya think of it? I'm pretty sure it was $99.00 at the Sports Authority. That is what I paid for the Scout 4 at EMS.

And here is the Scout 4 minus the rain cover - notice more vetilation, and two doors, but also it is smaller and not as tall.

Which do you think offers the better design/value?

Man who woulda thought that buying a tent would be so complicated - well actually I think it is just me making it complicated - but I want to get something that is a good value and that will last.

:D

Cool deal, bro. We're all set too. Bought a tent, a light, an air mattress, and a couple of chairs. Total spent was about $130. And we didn't want to spend $75 on a hotel room this weekend.

Those look cool - and we could use it at DAlton next year too!

Yeah I want to make sure I spend my money somewhat wisely and get a good value - so what do you think about the Eureka vs. the EMS I bought.

ARe two doors that big a deal?

features look similar, I'd go with the one you can stand up in.
I see no reason for a one room tent to have two doors??

Just wait until you're the sap next to the door when Drunk-Boy decides he just *HAS* to get up to take a leak and stomps all over your tomatoes in his attempt to "get out quietly".......... :mumble:

BUT....MMcG will be solo or with his 2 sons

plus with 2 doors you'd have to arrange sleeping areas to not block two areas (doors) instead of just one

 "Arrange sleeping areas"? I guess I was referring to the two-door convenience in a small tent - not one where you actually have options to "arrange sleeping areas" :)

well, my tent is so small, I have a rule "no other sausages allowed"

but I'm sure I could allow a mudhunny or two in :thumb:
