Has anyone had any experience in setting up cablecams, or could direct me to people who've setup cable cams? My friends and I have a few ideas, but i would like to see how they are done professionally.

They are an awsome idea! I don't know how you would see if you can see the rider all the way down.
If i were to set one up, I would use a cable (and connect the camera to it w/ a stabilizing platform) and control the cameras speed with a rope.

Some of the shots we want will require panning and moveing the camera about, we have a way to do it just with the camera, but we want to safely add a cameraman
Haha that's pretty interesting, if you get a homemade set up dialed, make sure you take pictures of it in action. That'd be more interesting to me than the video.
You could get a body harness and make sure the cable is secure. Maybe you should have someone that knows what they are doing help you with the cable.
